Friday, I went to a pub called Big Red with
nexus_six, had a few pints, geek talked most of the time. Later, we went to 'Unholy' at Scala. It should be called 'unworthy' b/c it was really dumb, the club was too huge for the crowd, the sound was crappy, crappy metal bands played upstairs. The music on the main floor was danceable if not cliched. I got drunk on red stripe to make it interesting and stumbled out around 4am, b/c I have a high pain tolerance and stayed longer than was reasonable.
Saturday, I went out to eat with
lorralie and her two friends from Berlin. We went to a delicious turkish Restaurant near the tower called
Tas Pide. It was my 1st real wholesome meal since I left Chicago. After Dinner we headed off to
Vagabonds Vagabonds was fun. It was like Whitby/Slimelight circa 1996-2000. I think the majority of people there were over 30. The venue is beautiful, spacious, and even carpeted. The green laser lights looked quite nice reflecting off the various reds, and golds of the fixtures and tapestries. There were so many beers on tap, I had option paralysis. The sound was great. I ran into several old friends throughout the night. I also ran into an englishgoth who said she had recognised me from Convergence in Chicago, though her name escapes me now.
Sunday,
alien8 found a bicycle for me. He, his friend Sara & I rode 30 miles through the streets of London. It wasn't too scary. We went through Hyde Park over to Covent Gardens, and meandered around. There's a lot less space to ride than in Chicago, but the average speed of the vehicles is slower, though the cars accelerate and turn quicker. The drivers are generally more polite, except the one weenie who cut Sara off. Words were exchanged and the gormless dork in his Bentley eventually apologized.
After the ride, we picked up
nmahieu, and their neighbor for a stroll along the west end of the Thames, and talked of various things, of birds, plants, bicyle geerkery, food. It was a perfectly pleasant sunny afternoon. Halfway through our walk, we stopped into
The Dove, a quaint 17th century pub, for yes a pint!
So far, my trip has been near perfect, the weather has been gorgeous, i've not had any horrible travel mishaps, and I've added a couple more places to my list of 'cheap&cheerful' B&B's. Today, I am going on a picnic. Time is blowing by too fast!
I am going to be Exhausted by the time I get to Leipzig. :)
