Seems like I had to get a new image host. I'mnot to thrilled about it, but hey, what can you do when you can't get to the images you upload. As promised, here's my blurb about the anime I was talking about: Platonic Chain
It's a very unique anime for two reasons. First, it's all 3D CGI, and it's made to look like traditional 2D animation. Second, the subject matter evolves around the whole big brother/information privacy issue. Here's a screen cap:
Here's a little synopsis: Basically a hacker breaks into some govt databases and creates a website where people can access this information and do many different things with it (the list of things would be too long to put here). Three girls in particular (the main three characters of the series) use this information for various things (one ot find a boyfriend matching a lot of criteria, including that the guy must have the name Kennichi, to match a tattoo she has on her arm), one girl to find out about her father's whereabouts, etc etc. Here's a screen cap of th emain characters:
The reason I wanted to mention this in a post is because not only do I think the animation style is awesome, but I think this is a really good anime. I saw a review of this anime on a website (I don't remember what the site is anymore) which criticized th emovement of characters. It said that it focused to much on realistic movement which took away from the smoothness of the animation overall and they said that the story was dull paced (I paraphrase). I disagree. The animation looks and progresses just fine. Realism in moevement and speed of movement doesn't detract from anything. I don't see why American viewers in general think that overstylized movements and cartoonish and oddly shaped characters work better than a more realistic approach. I feel realism in animation is what 3d animation is al about. Just look at Final Fantasy - The Spirits Within. Granted, the characters don't look like actual people, but it does a good job in bridging the gap between realistic movements and the usual exaggerated movements and expressions of traditional 2D animations. Now about the plot...each episode totals 6 to 7 minutes, about 4 of those minutes are just opening and ending music. That leaves a whopping 2-3 minutes of story. How much drama can you cram in 2 minutes? If the episodes lasted 15-25 minutes, i would agree that it would be kind of grueling. However, there's now ay you can expect the equivalent of Dante's "Divine Comedy" or Homer's "Illiad" in 2 minutes. O.o
Well that's all. If I come accross other cool animes or what have you I might post about them.
