I'm an idiot

I've been reading quite a few Batman fanfics recently (uh, yeah, they are mostly Batman/Joker) and I've come across a problem.

When reading most words, I only read far enough into the word that I can guess what it is in context of the sentence, and sometimes this means it only takes one letter. Such as with the word Batman. I see the capital B and ( Read more... )

fandom: batman, thoughts, what

That's actually pretty hilarious, I've never met anyone who reads like you. What happens if you try to read stuff out loud? Do you just say what your mind thinks the word is, or do you actually see the entire word before it comes out of your mouth? :o *is randomly curious*

I kind of learned to do it when I wanted to make myself read faster.

When I'm reading aloud, I try to be more careful, but yeah, sometimes that happens and I have to correct myself.

Hmm I might do that too, since I read super fast. Never really thought about it though, since I never mistake words for anything else. I think it's just because I've played piano for so long -- you learn to read and recognize things ahead of time and also very quickly, as well as guessing what comes next? idk that's my random hypothesis XD

I'm terrible at reading things out loud, not because I misinterpret a word, but because my speech gets all garbled. I seem to fail at talking, haha.

That's sort of what it is, subconsciously predicting what comes next and makes sense in context of the situation.

I often read too fast for my mouth to keep up, which makes me stumble over words. I have to consciously slow down my reading speed when I want to try and read aloud which makes it harder to do so.

I think I'm just good at guessing in general, lol.

I'm an extremely fast talker so I don't really have any problems with reading things out loud quickly. But I do slow down anyway so I don't pronounce things weirdly, haha.

I don't talk so fast, and when I try to I kind of slur my words and jump ahead in my sentences. It used to be worse, but it's gotten better as I got older.

OHHH I DEFINITELY SLUR MY WORDS. Maybe it's my alleged 'lazy Canadian speak'. Apparently we sound lazy while talking. *NEVER NOTICED*

I'll probably notice that I've got an accent once I move on down south. I don't feel like I have one now, but who knows?

Well everyone has an accent, it's silly to think you don't have one. To someone else who lives elsewhere, you would have an accent, just like other people seem to have accents when you listen to them speak.

Yeah, it's probably because most people who live where I live have lived here for years. Like me. XD

It's creepy when people can identify which country (and even which part of the country if they're super pro) you come from just from how you talk :'D I'm bad at identifying accents, so i think the people who can are pretty cool.

Oh god, I'm horrible at that, too. XD I can only identify - not from here. :3

Yeah that's pretty much it for me as well. Um, I can identify British accents, some American accents, Indian accents, some Chinese accents (i.e. where in China they probably came from), and Australia? Maybe some Russian accents too, but I get them mixed up with some other accents.

I'm never certain but I can kind of tell sometimes.
