Singapore - Part 12

Feb 13, 2006 06:30

Teusday 1/31 -

We were planning on getting up at 8:30 and heading out to meet up with some people at 9. Instead we got up at 10. Luckily not many people were waiting for us, but they should have called when we were late, not when we were an hour late.

Anyway. Today was the long planned trip to Sentosa, the tourist island of Singapore. It's also where all the beaches are. Funny thing about the beaches, they actually have to import sand, because for some reason there is no natural sand beaches on the entirety of Singapore.

The plan was to meet up with Kewei, Najib and Mel at the mall attached to the connection to the island of Sentosa. Naturally, first we need to eat.

~ 11 am - Half Boiled eggs with coconut jam (kaya) toast and butter suger toast & milk tea

This actually isn't that uncommon. Simply a runny egg used to dip toast in with sweet butter. The only real difference is its commercialized. Someone had the insight to take a popular easy breakfast and make it trendy.

Shahin popped up, and we were ready to head off. The plan was to take the cable car that runs from the mall/mrt station to the Tourist part of the Island. Some of the views were nice, though not very picturesque nature wise. But you had a better view of the industrial districts, as well as the docks. Singapore has a pretty active cargo port.

Kewei is aparently petrified of hieghts, so she covered her eyes the whole time. It was rather smooth overall though.

Once we arrived we looked around to see what we could do. Mostly to find that everything cost a whole lot. Aparently the whole thing used to be free at one point, but the appeal of all that money from the tourists eventually took over. None of us really having money to burn, we actually skipped a couple of the events that we might have been interested in, simply because they wern't worth the money.

We did walk around though and look at alot of the stuff that we could. There were alot of fish in the various ponds, and some rather huge turtles. The manta rays were hard to spot, but were of pretty good size as well.

There was also a huge ass snake. An indian attraction where they put a hat on you, and let you hold this snake. For the ill-informed, i'm scared to death of snakes. But after some instance, there i was, holding it, envisioning crazed attacks. Hurray for conquering fears!

We walked around, and saw some of the herb garden, and noted the huge Lion statue thats a trademark singaporean thing. At night it flashes beams of light from its eyes to look over the port of singapore. We didn't climb to the top, simply because, like everything else it cost some.

Don't get me wrong, this trip was cool, but we as a group spent a lot of time joking about how much everything cost, and the apparent lack of upkeep in some of the areas. We took a decent ammount of pictures, and walked down the dragon fountain path.

After seeing most of the things we could see without paying an arm and a leg, we decided to head down to the beach. When we came upon the beach, we found a free animal show. It was starting in about 20 minutes, so we figured we might as well take a seat and see what happens. The show was obviously aimed towards kids, and the trainers were energetic, but it was still cool to see those monkey's frolicing around. With their HUGE ass's. Aparently when the females go into heat, their asses get red and swolen. One of those things must have been in heat in the worst of ways. We all winced every time it sat down.

When the show as finished, there were some photo ops. I can't say now that I havn't had a monkey on my back.

We took a trolly ride down to the opposite side of the beach where i was less crowded. Liv and Kewei swapped into their bikini's, Liv sun bathing, and Kewei and Najib heading to relax in the water. Mel laid down also, while Shahin and I sat watching over the stuff.

Scanning the horizon, we couldn't really find any hot women to look at besides the ones we were already with, so i decided i'd go hang out with Kewei and Najib in the water and cool down. Besides, i wanted to take the opportunity to swim in the Indian Ocean. Not exactly something i have an opportunity to do alot. Was a good opportunity to talk with Najib and Kewei also. I found myself liking Najib more and more.

After a while, liv woke up from her mini nap, and the swimmers got a bit tired and hungry, and we decided to call it a day. Showered off, and dressed again we started to head to the nearby sushi place to catch dinner. But before that..

Louging!

We saw a louging stand. I talked Liv, Shahin and Mel to go on the Louge with me. Kewei, far to scared to take the air lift to the top of the hill thing, stayed back with najib with the camera. The lift itself was a bit longer then i anticipated, but was definatly nice. Liv sat with me, and we had a very nice view of the beach, and the island almost on a whole. It was pretty high, and quiet.

Finally at the top, we had to get into another line, and then ended up racing down the street trail. We stayed relativly close together, though we had to dodge around the kids who were quite a bit slower then us. It was great fun, though a bit short. Olivia and I still agree that Kewei and Najib missed out on that one.

Then we hit the sushi stop.

~ 7 pm - Teriyaki chicken rice, soft shelled crab in egg roll, California handroll, Salmon wrap with roe, Scallops sushi & grilled salted fish

Lot's of Sushi was eaten. Next to the booths there were treadmils with various plates of various sushi, as well as some Wasabi. We also ordered some food. We were in no hurry, and must have stayed here about an hour and a half, joking about and eating. Shahin is nearly as big as i am for a reason. That boy can put away food, and he loves his sushi.

Some of the stuff we ordered came out kinda slow, or not at all, but overall it was a good experience.

Walking back to the bus stop, the Sun started to go down. One definate advantage of Singapore is its nights. The day's can be hot, as well as the nights, but more often then not *at least when i was there* the nights were just comfortable. A bus ride later, and we were back at the cable car.

At night it was a bit different. The lights of the city were bright, and the view was nice, unobscured by the messiness of the port. The lights from the eyes of the lion flashed over the harbor like search lights. Kewei didn't see any of this, because once again she was curled up in a ball in Najib's arms.

When we got back to the mall, we said our goodbyes to everyone, and Liv and I walked around the mall. There was a new store on the top floor that was something of a limited department store. I actually ended up buying a dvd player here for myself. It plays pretty much everything, and 40 SGD was just to good to pass up. Walking around the mall we didn't really say much. Was more of a relaxing walk then anything else. Nothing really passed between us, just looked at various things and talked about what we were seeing.

Simplicity on a simple fun day.

After that we took the last train home, and went to bed. The beach makes anyone tired.
