The transcript...more or less:
I started this review the wake of fansubber PositronCannon’s recent completion of a fully-subbed version of the entire original dub of Digimon Adventure 02. I've now had the opportunity to watched Digimon Adventure 02 in its English dub and in its Japanese dub. Both function very differently within those contexts,

In fact I think that its actually not the "easier" situation is more complex. It wasn't until Myotismon (Vampdemon whatever look I'm sticking with the Fox Kids stuff where I can for this) we were dealing with something other than really cartoonish villain who posed no threat. Devimon was pretty scary but in that scattershot way a general antagonist in a long running cartoon or Rita Repulsa is. The difference of course being they actually whack his foul ass in like ten or so episodes but most of that is spent freaking out and having day in the limelight shit going on.
The Digimon Kaiser though? He's on from the go. He's won practically. He's the Dark Masters scaled down thankfully something to confrontation as to final apocalyptic battle levels with the organization and leadership of Myotismon. Hell the fact he's a human who can program and is pioneering the in the digital world like a toy (and that he conceives of it as such) is what is so awesome and unlike other anime redemption arcs so acceptable about his sudden turn about.
More than that though is that 01 cast were pioneers and settlers. Trailblazers. OF COURSE its easier with guidance. And I loved that was integrated to the show even to the end with the trail blazed so far than specialness is not glorious in its uniqueness but in being shared and growing even becoming mundane and supportive. That's an excellent message and turn of us. Its wonderful seeing our human cast evolve and advance to the next level. In a kids show and from a kids perspective for kids that's wonderful. Moreover by have more than just one note personalities irongripped by single issue psychology we can have more complex interactions.
Yolei works for me as she's a smart girl WITHOUT being a nerd. Ditto Cody who is like TK should have been without being a little bit of shota. Not as a sex object but as an adorable but really unrealistic moppet of cute and cuddly. The dead father and the morally fixated even morose nature felt more real than not too bratty TK.
Davis...okay I never really warmed to him completely but he's not like me. he's a happy self assured athlete with stable situation who chases ambition and ISN'T punished by the universe for doing this. He also shows enough consideration. It was nice not having to deal with friendoridol or now you're a hotshot thing. Able to excel WHILE playing nice with others. He had the loudest personality, and lets face it that was only thing about Tai the made him leader along with somehow always being the one with the highest power level, andthe most concern and focus. Some honestly don't need staid and dark and deepness sometime they need focus and confidence and ambition and these aren't bad things. So yes Jock Davis is a Jock but without the dumb or mean associations. He's just a guy. I buy it.
Hikari and TK also made sense, well enough, for me. they'd changed by life more than the Digital World a good touch of the real in what is a fantasy. Morever as the fantasy touches the real the more the real interacts. Digimon just somehow encapsulated the cultural force of internet-zation as it was being experienced in those heady days. The epilogue hadto happen. They weren't kids anymore and the digital world had come to the masses. At least this way they remained heroes pioneering and helping other heroes.
