I would say that 70% of the crap that I own is due to me watching tv/movies. I would also say that the same percentage applies to crap that I want. Do I particularly need these things? No. Do I feel like I'm about to die if I don't have them? Yes. I watch Pawn Stars on the History Channel every now and then and see people selling things that are considered collector's items that are worth thousands to tens of thousands of dollars. Half the stuff I didn't think was worth it, especially when it's something stupid like a spoon or a bike. But then I reflected on my own collection of random crap that I own and realize that I'm guilty of the same thing I was judging other people on. Does this mean that I'm going all zen and giving up all my worldly possessions? Hell no. Instead, I'm here to announce that I'm a huge tv/movie nerd and am proud of it. And just to show you how cookoo I am, I'm presenting you with the list of things that I want from items I've seen in tv shows and movies.
Pretty Guardian Sailormoon - Henshin Bracelet: Like many of you, I grew up watching the anime for Sailormoon, so I was accustomed to the henshin wands and of course I wanted the toys and all that. Unfortunately I was half a generation late cuz by the time I got into the fandom, the show was pretty much over in Japan so I couldn't partake in the blowing of my money on show memorabilia, so when Pretty Guardian Sailormoon came out I was all over that merchandise. I go the Teletia S and L, the cds, the photobooks, etc. The big shame is that they did not sell this henshin bracelet. They did sell the henshin wristband thingie the bracelet turns into once they transform, but not the pretty beaded one that they wear when they're civilians. Not that it wouldn't be a cheap piece of plastic, but I was kinda hoping they'd sell one at least (and maybe one day I can have one made up that's nice quality).
Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon - Star Locket/Orgel: I really, really, reeeeeeeally want this. But not like a cheap, oversized, can't-even-play-the-song-in-tune toy version you see floating around on e-bay. I want a really nice quality one made out of gold or some high quality metal with a hand crafted music box inside. Impossible? Yes, yes I know. It's just been a dream of mine. I always tell my friends that if a guy ever wanted to win me over, he'd go to an artisan and have this custom made for me. Sadly I don't think it'd be possible to make something like that.
Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon - Neptune Mirror: Yet another item I doubt they'd ever make a high quality production of. I don't even know what I'd do with it if I got one really. It's just so pretty and I'd love to see the intricate metal work in real life if I could. Most likely I'd just drop the $200 bucks or whatever a nice quality one is worth and just throw it on the shelf. But who cares since it's from ~*~*~*~Sailormoon~*~*~*~
Bihsoujo Senshi Sailormoon - SuperS Movie Cookie Cutters: Okay, now THIS is something I could blow money on and not feel guilty since it'd serve some sort of practical purpose. The nerd in me just wants to bake batches and batches of sugar cookies cut into usagi, hearts, crescent moons, and stars. I have been on the hunt for these cookie cutters for the past 8 years or so and have finally managed to get the star and heart shaped ones, but alas the crescent moon and usagi shaped ones have evaded my detection. And it can't be any random rabbit and moon shaped, cookie cutters, they HAVE to be the same shape that's iconic to Sailormoon and be the same petite size. Yes, yes I am that psycho.
Cardcaptor Sakura - Sakura Star Key Necklace: I'd say I would want all the toys from Cardcaptor Sakura, but if I had to pick one I really wanted, it'd have to be this. I'd probably just wear it around, but in private I would hold it in the air and do the incantation and wish really hard to make it actually turn into the wand so I could go running around using cards to make it snow or something, but then just end up standing awkwardly alone in my room with nothing happening. *le sigh*
Maid In Manhattan - Harry Winston Wreath Necklace: I like sparkly things. I liked this movie. I liked this necklace since it's sparkly and even more because it's associated with this movie. Therefore I must have it. Anyone want to rob a bank with me so I can afford this?
Ever After - Ball Gown: I loved ALL the costumes in this movie. The entire film was basically a giant piece of eye candy. It helped that it was a fantastic rom-com, but even if it weren't at least it was pretty to look at. And of course the one gown I want the most is her mother's wedding dress/ball gown. If I got an exact replica of this dress, I would just wear it in my house pretending I was living in the renaissance. What would be ideal for me is to have this dress altered to fit a modern wedding dress. I'd probably shorten the sleeves and have the skirt poof out a bit since I like Cinderella/princess-y type wedding dresses. I'm sure a lot of you are gagging right now, but I am soooo into the girly girl thing.
Cinderella - Glass Slippers: You didn't think I'd want the dress without the matching glass slippers did you? I dunno what it is about glass slippers that's so appealing, but I want a pair. I don't think I'd want the clog type ones they used in ever after, but I like the idea of making the heel glass and the actual shoe part have some sort of intricate bead work. I'd probably do something more along the lines of a pointy heel with a beaded or ribbon strap. It may be kinda hard to describe, but I assure you it's really pretty in my head.
Alice in Wonderland - 'Drink Me' Bottle: I have no idea why, but I just love pretty bottles and glasses. I don't drink alcohol, but if you wanted to get me to I suggest you present it to me in a pretty bottle/glass. I love Alice in Wonderland to bits and am always eager to watch whatever new version comes out and one of the things I like to look for is how the art department designed the 'Drink Me' bottles. If I had one I'd probably fill it with punch and pretend I turned into a giant.
Little Women (1994) - Silver Hair Comb Set: For those of you who haven't seen the movie, you can see it at the part where Laurie goes outside with Amy and gives this to her as a gift. I love everything about this set. The combs are simple, yet elegant and I love that they're presented in such a gorgeous case. You could probably use the case to put other stuff in if you didn't have the combs. I always sorta wanted to get something like that to put business cards in (that is once I'm successful enough to actually NEED business cards...)
꽃보다 남자 (Boys Over Flowers) - Yi-jung's Crown Ring: I honestly thought they were gonna do something symbolic with that ring in the drama since you see him wear it ALL the time. I was actually hoping he'd give it to Ga-eul and she'd wear it around her neck with a chain. But alas, nothing really became of it. Doesn't really matter though cuz I still pretend he did it in my head and so now I'd like to get the crown ring too and wear it around my neck. I'm pretty sure this is stemming from my lingering SoEul addiction and the only cure is to see Kim Bum and Kim So Eun do another drama togther...
Full House - Young-jae's key necklace: Unlike Yi-jung's crown ring that I just spoke about, Full House did fulfill my girly fantasy and had Young-jae give his key necklace to Ji-eun when they finally got together. Plus I've always had a thing for key necklaces (again, I have no idea why).
Delightful Girl Choon-hyang - Mong-ryong Cell Phone Charm: I have forever been looking for tutorials online to figure out how to do the kinds of knots that you see on this charm. I figured, if Choon-hyang could make something like this by hand, why couldn't I? The tricky part is finding a tiny silver knife charm like the one they used in the drama. I had actually had this thing on my wish list for years since it's ridiculously expensive online at Yesasia (seriously, $25 for a cell phone charm?). Luckily, my cousin bought it for me for Christmas last year so I actually get to cross this off my list.
Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban - Hermione's Time Turner: Again, another pretty item I'd probably just put on display (but then also put it on from time to time and spin it to see if it actually worked). There are other things I'd want from the Potter universe, but this is probably the only thing that's actually feasible in the physical world.
The Wizard of Oz - Dorothy's Ruby Slippers: I don't think I actually have clothes that would go with sparkly ruby slippers, but if I actually got a pair I'm _totally_ going shopping for a Dorohty outfit. I'd also probably go skipping down the sidewalk clicking my heels together and adopt a black scottish terrier to run around with.
Star Wars - Lightsaber: C'mon, who doesn't want one? (Preferably a green one for me).
Anastasia - 'Once Upon a December' Music Box: If you couldn't tell from the Sailormoon Star Locket, I like music boxes. Add on to the fact that the winding key is part of a necklace and I'm sold. Plus of course this came from Anasatia so of course I have to have one just like it.
All Dogs Go to Heaven - Square Waffle Maker: I know I know, out of all the things to zero in on in a movie...a square waffle maker? I can't explain it, but I do know that since I watched this movie like a hundred times as a kid I've always wanted a square waffle maker. And not just any square waffle maker. It HAS to be like the one in the movie with the handle and everything. And surprisingly, they're quite hard to come by. Trust me, I've looked. And I know Alton Brown would be disappointed in me for wanting a square waffle maker instead of a round one, but dammit I wanna be like Ann Marie and eat waffles with real butter and syrup.
Matilda - Ms. Honey's Chocolate Box: Again, this is something that is surprisingly difficult to find. You'd think if you just googled 'wooden box' you'd be able to find SOMETHING like this, but no. I can't find anything remotely close to the design of the one they used in the movie, more less find one that you can just take the lid off of (most have the lid screwed on with a hinge). If I got one, I'd totally go to sees candy and then put them in the box to eat out of :<
Little Rascals - Darla's Cracker Jack Ring: Of course I wouldn't want a cheap toy ring from a snack food, but this movie always made me have a thing for rings that had light blue, heart-shaped stones.
Densha Otoko - Hermes Tea Cups: I have always been on the prowl for a tea set that was just right, and I dunno if this is really what I want but I do know that I for sure want to get this tea set and get some Benoist tea and drink it by my computer. And I don't even like tea.
A Little Princess - Porcelain Doll: Reading 'A Little Princess' and watching the movies always made me want to have a Victorian style porcelain doll. I have a picky aesthetic though, so I have yet to really find one that I want. If I had to describe it, it'd be like the body-type of American Girl dolls (pre-Mattel acquisition, those bastards), but made with porcelain instead of plastic. And of course I'd want an antique wooden trunk filled with doll furniture and accessories and a 100-piece wardrobe. ...what? I like toys. And yes I am an adult. Don't judge me.
Lord of the Rings - Evenstar of Arwen Necklace: I'm pretty sure I'd want this even if it wasn't associated with LOTR, but it sure does help don't it?
Lord of the Rings - Fellowship Leaf: All I can say is..."You have my bow." "And my axe!" XD
You're Beautiful - Pig Rabbit (Plus hair pin): Why are all the drama memorabilia on Yesasia so ridiculously overpriced? Is it because they know crazy fangirls are deluded enough to spend that kind of money? Sure, I'd do that to buy dvd sets and maybe a piece of jewelry...but it's a stuffed animal. And as addicted I am to plushies (seriously, you'd side-eye me if you saw my current collection), there's no way I'm dropping $50 before tax for a plushie. Even the goddamn hair pin was $50 before they took it off their inventory list. That thing was only 3000 won on the show! Ugh, but I waaaant it >_< One day...one day it shall be mine... EDIT: FINALLY GOT IT!!!! MUAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Now all I need is the jeweled hair pin that's going for $24 on ebay....
My Name is Kim Sam Soon - Pig Doll: This is also ridiculously expensive on Yesasia (and anywhere else you try to get it in the states), but luckily I was able to get this in Korea back when I went there for summer school in 2007 for only 20,000 won (about $20USD). Interesting story to go with how I got it, but I won't bore you with the details. But she's my precious and I guard her with my life >:D
So there you have it. I think you can deduce from this list that I've got to be some deranged tv/movie nerd, but I can't help it. It's not even normal geek stuff that you can buy at a convention. The majority of this stuff is just random things that most people wouldn't even think of...but yea. And I'm pretty sure if I had never seen these movies I could care less about these items (I still have yet to reconcile my desire for a square waffle maker with a stick handle and it's been like 20 years). Anyways, if any of you know how I could my hands on some of this stuff without killing my wallet, let me know. My inner nerd is dying to be let out.
