Djaq switched off the television. The news was saturated with bombers and victims; her people killing their people, their people killing her people. It no longer mattered which side it was anymore, she found it all offensive. The tears pricked in her eyes and she reached under the sofa for her box. The photographs were creased and worn, but her brother still looked young and free and her father noble and learned.
Will poked his head around the doorway and saw the memories in her hands. He sat down gently on the sofa next to her and put his arm around her shoulders. Djaq turned to him and managed a soft smile.
