Summary: Haley’s forgotten something very important. Luckily Nathan is on hand to remind her.
Nathan knew his wife was exhausted when he could straddle her tiny waist yet she slept right though it. She was so beautiful in that moment that he almost didn’t want to wake her up. No matter what she was doing or what she was wearing she was always the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen, but his favorite time to watch her was when she was sleeping. He could take his time to study her face; every detail that had long ago been etched into his memory and not worry about her catching him out and blushing like she still did after all this time. Damn she was adorable. When she started stirring he saw a sweet smile form on those kissable lips of hers and he couldn’t resist any longer. Leaning down he pressed his lips to hers, moving them softly, coaxing a response from her and pulling her from her drowsy state. They’d had a tough night with Jamie and even though he’d wanted to let her sleep, their little boy had wanted his mother.
“Mmm… good morning” she whispered, her eyes smiling at him from beneath slightly droopy lids. She turned her head to check the time and was startled to see how late it was. “What’s going on? Why is your son not screaming for his breakfast?”
He had to bit back a grin. Somehow Jamie was Haley’s son while on his best behavior, but always Nathan’s son when he was not being a perfect little angel. “Jamie is with his Grandma who has already given him a bottle and she’s taken him to see Karen and Lily for the morning.”
Her eyes widened in surprise “Are you serious? Has the unthinkable happened?”
“If you mean, do you we have the house to ourselves? Then yes.”
She giggled as she felt his hands tugging down the blankets before slipping under her singlet to softly caress her stomach. He couldn’t help himself; he’d had quite an obsession with the warm soft skin of her belly ever since he’d found out she was pregnant. He supposed that was pretty normal especially when she’d gotten to the later months of pregnancy and he’d wanted to talk to their child in her womb… but he still couldn’t seem to kick the fascination even months after the birth. At first he’d sensed her feeling a little embarrassed by the baby weight she’d apparently gained, not that he’d noticed it; she’d looked sexy as hell to him, but he’d made sure to ensure her of just how beautiful she was. At first it had been with little looks and touches, flirting and sexy talk, but thankfully a month ago they’d been given the all clear to resume their … intimate activities. After six weeks of intense flirting and verbal foreplay their first time making love again had been sensational. Talk about mind blowing!
“Wow. What’s the occasion?”
Nathan chuckled before leaning across the bed to open the top draw of his side table, removing a purple gift wrapped box with a silver bow. Things had been so crazy over the last couple of months with coping with the new baby and getting organized for college that he shouldn’t have been surprised that she’d managed to forget her own birthday. Most of the time it was hard to keep track of which day of the week it was let alone the actual date.
“It’s somebody’s birthday.” He said with a grin as she slid further up the bed to rest against the headboard, taking the gift from him and unwrapping it with all the enthusiasm of a child on Christmas morning. He loved how she did this. There was no careful pulling of cello-tape to preserve the paper, not suspense... she just got straight to the good stuff. In Nathan Scott’s opinion that was the only way to do it.
He watched as she opened the box to find a white gold locket and chain and felt his heart flip when she opened the locket, her face lighting up at the small picture of them holding their son in the hospital. It had been the best day of their lives and now she could carry the memory close to her heart every day.
“Thank you.” She whispered, a stray tear falling down her cheek. “I completely forgot.”
“I know… but luckily you have such an amazing husband to remember for you.”
“I do, don’t I?” she laughed. “I love it Nathan. It’s perfect.”
“I’m glad. It took a while to find the right gift.”
“You know what else you could give me to make this the perfect birthday?” she asked with a grin as she glanced down at his boxer shorts.
Nathan shook his head. He had a pretty good idea, but he’d like to hear her say it.
“You.” She whispered huskily, grabbing the hem of her top and pulling it up and over her head.
In moments they’d removed every last vestige of clothing and he held himself above her, looking into her smiling face and wondering how he’d got so lucky. He felt her legs wrap around his hips, her feet digging into his butt in a plea to hurry up and he moved forward, entering her in one deep thrust.
“Happy Birthday, baby.”
