Well, its been a while since I've taken a vendor certification test. I was not sure I needed to keep it up after I got my degree. Anyway, I've been Lotus Certified (IBM Advanced Applications Development Professional, or something like that) since 1997. I am certified up to R6. Well, Lotus is up to R8 and to keep my cert level "current", I had to take an update test from R6 to R7 (and will have to take the R7 to R8 later). The R7 test is only offered for limited time and that time is fast approaching (12/31). I did not want to "lose" my certs by having to retake ALL the tests over again, instead of just the update.
So, I got some practice materials and studied. The practice test (from
CertFx) was my main tool. Second in my arsenal came a copy from a colleague of the "actual test" sheet, from
Actual tests (holy crow, were these questions CLOSE, if not identical to the actual test questions). Any questions that had discrempancies between the two were settled with the "official documentation". I had not tested down here before, so I was not sure where the facility was. It looked simple to get to from my office and was only a mile (if that) away. I parked, signed in, and was lead to a test station. I was out of there in 15 minutes with a passing score. Yeah me!
That was just just the first test, I still have one more to take, but there is not the deadline approaching for it as it is the current level. I still do not know how much these certs mean within my company, but they still mean something to me (and the company IS paying for them, so it does mean SOMETHING). I think I'll try t knock this one out by the end of December.
Peace,
Bear
P.S. I still adhere to my ritual of eating Chocolate before going in for testing! Seriously, it does help... no, really! Okay, I had my doubts too, but my sweety said there are studies out there, and
here is one of them and
here is another.
