Politics and Religion

What I do know is that it is opening up the “taboo” subjects for debate and discussion, more so than it ever has. Just remember though, every war and every innocent drop of blood spilled because of it has been because of differences in opinion on either of these two subjects.

Peace,
Bear

I love to talk about religion. There is a great difference in talking about it and trying to change someones opinion. Learning about how others believe, is a great way to understand why and how they think the way they do. It is fascinating, to me to learn how friends got their current beliefs and when they established them and how often or why they adjust them.

It is the people that can not talk about or discuss these issues that bothers me. Why would think that just by talking about what and why you believe, what you do it will cause a fight or argument with a friend. Friends are people that except each other for who they are. You and disagree with a lot of beliefs and still be friends.

It is very obvious that that was directed at Destroyah_Des. Des and I have been owners/moderators of many boards & news groups. It has been our EXPIRIENCE that these subjects (religion/politics) cause far more problems than they are worth. Based on these expiriences, we forbid those topics to be discussed on whatever medium we are in control of. Also, members/friends HAVE left our boards because of flamewars due to these topics. It is just not worth it.

As for the internet giving no-bodies a voice, just look at the foul mouthed hate-speak vomiting out of every orifice on message boards, youtube comments and blogs. And if you research who is saying it, you will find it is the "open-minded tolerant" liberals.

This comment was not directed at anyone. I was stating that I personally enjoy understanding why people beleive the way they do. It is imo the better to learn and talk things out than hide what we beleive and therefor no possibility of learning, gaining knoweledge of others, our selves, and the possibility of change in our or someone elese opinion of their own accord and not being forced.

My views and opinions have changed over the years with experience, knowledge, and life. Isn't that how we grow as a person? I would not ask anyone to change their beleifs, just to try and understand others.

Now now, Children don't make me come back there... if I have to stop this car... wait 'til your mother gets home!

Seriously, I've seen no attacks made here and yet there are defenses up and active, searching to shoot someone down. My point of this post was more to show that taboo subjects might still be taboo to some, and I think my point has been made.

This sounds like an attack to me. Whether she admits that or not is irrelevant. It is what it is. My and Des' responces to this were just to clarify a few things. We never called anyone any names or insulted anybody. Just pure and simple logic.

I am quite positive that she never would have said what she did if Des hadn't responded. It would have been just her first paragraph. The second paragraph is full of problems.

Kick me out of the car if you want, I can hitch hike home. :)

I do not kick out, I may stuff someone in the trunk or strap them to the hood, but we will all make it the the final destination.

You say "pure and simple logic", yet there is a tone to your messages (and to Des's). I've gone back numerous times and have tried to read it any other way, but every time I see the same thing, someone who has their fists up ready to defend themselves. I am sorry, it is what I see. I've gone through trying to find alternate tones to everyone's posts and while I CAN see an antagonistic tone in KatHawk's first post (when read from a certain perspective), her responses have been somewhat level headed.

I am not here to be a peace maker, only the two (three) of your can do that.

May you find peace,

Bear
