...I think. I snuck in a work out and was on the treadmill here at home on Friday. I was extremely sore all day, especially in my arms right where they meet the shoulders. It was hard to lift them above my head.
I got up Saturday morning and headed to the gym. I am a morning person, sorta (or I used to be one), so the morning workout was okay by me. I got in before PapaTuna and started my warm up. I was just finishing up when he came in. I told him just how sore my arms/shoulders were. As I expected, I got little sympathy. As a matter of fact, after the leg workouts, we went to work more on my arms. Ouch! I was surprised though. As much as they hurt, the pain went away and they they did what I wanted them to do (for the most part). I was not able to do a full 15 reps on some, and towards the end I actually was feeling a bit light headed and nauseous. I sat down on one of the benches though, drank some water, and it cleared. I drink two bottle of water per session. I am a little confused about this; I mean, most of the first weight loss will be water but if I am drinking more water, how can that be? I know I have to drink to stay hydrated and I do, but I know I am not sweating all the water away. Anyway, we worked for 45 minutes before I had to quit and go cool down back on the tread mill. I left there with sore, jelly-like arms.
I got home, grabbed a bit of breakfast and got started on a major home task. We wanted to remove this tree from our lennia.
According to our neighbors, it had been in here about 20-25 years. I was a nice tree, but it was just too large, almost pushing through the screen (nearly 8 ft tall). We trimmed it back earlier last year (it used to nearly hang over the pool), but the inner branches were too thick and it did not look good. Another issue was with the ground lighting.
Hidden under here in all this tangled mess of roots was a wiring system and lights (look carefully). We were not sure if these were 120V lights or low 12V lights. Either way, they were in bad shape and we wanted them replaced.
So, we brought out the saw, chain saw, pruners, ax and pick ax. It was in a tight spot, in the corner, and we did not want to hit the beams of the lennia. The other issue was the power cords. Were they live? I used a multimeter and it did not show power, but we wanted to be careful. We also could not see a source, so we wanted to be able to trace that.
We removed all the branches. I was sore, yes, but the workout this morning showed me that I could work through the pain. Next came the root ball. Twenty years and it was quite large. We worked all the wires out save for one, it was coming from the source.
It took a lot of careful applications with the axe and pick-axe (even used the chainsaw in some areas) before I got the ball to move. But it was still not giving up so easily. "If I had a large enough lever, I could move the world" and we used to have one... a large crowbar, but we left it in Indy. We ran to Lowes and got one (and some more flowers to plant). And, after much more digging, lifting and pruning, we won.
There is still a lot of clean up in the beds and add some good top soil, but the major chore is done (and swinging the axe did not kill me).
Today, we went to
BARF today with a couple of friends T made here on LJ. D&C were fun and we had a good time exploring and chatting and learning about each other. BARF is a nice sized show/fair, but not the largest we've been to. Still it took us some time to get through it all. I also ran into a new LJ friend (
katiem1982) below. I recognized her from some of her photos on her page and told her if I saw her, I'd say HI. She was nice enough to pose with me for the photo below.
We got to spend the day out with new friends, which is always nice. I picked up a wall sculpture for my office. I even stayed mostly on my diet (no chocolate, even though it was the featured part of this weekend.
We came home and rested a few before we tackled the laundry pile (I don't mind DOING laundry, I just don't care to fold it and I'll just pile the clean clothes on the spare bed sometimes. i am still stiff and sore, but not as bad.
Peace,
Bear
