Sooooooooooooooo sleepy. I had the longest weekend imaginable. Ladies and gentlemen we have officially entered tech week for Cabaret so its crunch time and everyone is panicking. It was tech weekend, for those of you who are non-theater oriented people or unfamiliar with our terminology, it means we place in the finishing touches of the show concerning sound cues, light cues, and any polishing that needs to be done on set before dress rehearsal. Normally, tech weekend involves brief work in the morning on the set if anything needs to be adjusted and light cues in the evening and everything finishes up on Sunday so we can begin our three dress rehearsals through out the week. Mind you, this is what is SUSPOSED to happen on these tech weekends. Unfortunately, when has anything in the theatre ever run smoothly? We arrived at 11:00am Saturday morning to discover they tech crew were no where near ready for us. So the cast got to work and for 10 hours we painted 36 round tables, glued individual strands of beads onto wood to form gold beaded curtains, and hung so many lights we lost count. We had a late lunch at 4:00 for a half hour and then they kinda hoped we would forget about dinner. By 9:00 I finally asked if we would ever be getting a break and it took them another 45 minutes to finally let us go. Sunday was even worse. We did cue to cue until 11:30 at night. No dinner break at all this time. Instead they sent some cast members off with orders for everyone. We ate between our cues. But did we at least finish what needed to be done? Sadly, no. We had two scenes left to go in Act two by the time we called it quits. So, instead of our first dress rehearsal we had to finish up with act three cue to cue on Monday night. That took us from 7:00-Midnight. *Collapses* And then came the homework. I was up till nearly three trying to work on my acting journal that’s due before I gave up. I barely made it to acting class this morning. 9:30 am is a very cruel mistress to a theater major. ^_~ I got half way out the door then sat down debating whether or not I should go at all. Lucky for me, my professor was merciful and didn’t force me to perform today. I never would have made it. Ever been so exhausted and overwhelmed you’re nearly in tears…now you have a pretty good picture of me this morning. As Tony tells me, “We hate to love it.” This is a very good theory for a theater major. We hate the long hours, the tedious tasks, the extended classes, and the stress that piles on top of us every day and yet we love every second we are on stage. I know one way or another the show will come together. As they say in Shakespeare in Love:
“Henslowe: Strangely enough it all turns out well.
Will Shakespeare: How will it?
Henslowe: I Don’t know. It’s a mystery.”
For now all the cast can do is have faith in our dedicated crew and directors who have been with us every step of the way. Say a prayer one of our leads who plays Fraulein Schneider regains her voice. She’s been struggling with a wretched cold since last week. We open March 4th at 8:00pm so think of me when the curtains rises that night. I wish I had all of you with me but I know you’ll be there in spirit cheering me on. (With the exception of Krystyn who will serve as a representative for all next weekend.)
We have our first dress rehearsal tonight in our costumes. Should be interesting. My slips and kimonos are BEAUTIFUL! Very Sexy! Woohoo! I’m excited, hopefully I won’t fall asleep before the end of act one. LOL Wish me luck!
And now QUIZES!
