Feud Chooses You: Chapter 2

Author's Note: To make a better sense of some of the references and relationships going forward, I recommend reading my first story Escaping Nowhere.

Strangetown Motel Complex, 94 Road to Nowhere, Strangetown

On the ground floor, Goneril, Jenny, and Mary-Sue single-handedly carried several boxes to the biggest suite in the complex.

“Looks like that’s the last box.”, Mary-Sue said. “Unless you left something in the van…”

Goneril shook her head. “No, that’s all we brought from the old condo.”

“With that, I officially welcome you to Strangetown Motel Complex!” Jenny declared. “This used to be the Presidential Suite - reserved for any VIPs who somehow ended up in this part of town.”

Goneril shuddered at the state of the “Presidential Suite”. All the appliances looked worse for wear, the floor creaked every time she stepped on it, and a musty smell emanated from the entire room.

“That’s...one way to put it.”

“Hey, the listing did say it was a fixer-upper,” Mary-Sue reminded her. “With some TLC, this place can look good as new.”

“Whatever, as long as the bathroom is in immaculate condition.”

Goneril huffed and stomped to the little door on her left. All hope of a five-star experience dissipated as soon as she opened the door.

She dragged her feet all the way to the bed right next to the bathroom and got hit by a wave of regret. “Watcher, what do I do now?”

Mary-Sue rubbed her back. “There now, at least you don’t need a telescope to find aliens here.”

“Ugh…”

“Sorry, Gonnie, but I would have to take off.” Jenny apologized. “I have a 24-hour surgery rotation later tonight and am not looking forward to medical students who think Sims’s Anatomy is an accurate depiction of medicine.”

“How’s your internship treating you?”, Goneril inquired.

Jenny beamed at the chance of talking about medical school. “It’s great. Really exhausting to keep up with all the fresh faces at my age, though.”

"What are you planning to specialize in?"

"Specializing in passing my boards first."

Mary-Sue approached them and gave Goneril a hug. “I have to go too. I have an appointment with my therapist at 4, and Lilith’s recital later at 6.”

“Aww, too bad you couldn’t stay.”, Goneril said. “Thank you for helping me move in, though.”

“You’re very welcome, Gon.”

As soon as both of them drove off, Goneril faced Miranda and asked her to help clean the entire place. “Time to get this pigsty into a reasonably good shape.”

Both of them scrubbed off years of dirt, dust, and neglect from every nook and cranny in the place. After getting the place into a reasonably livable state, they started unpacking all the boxes and made it their own.

Goneril wiped the sweat off her brow after all that hard work they did. Not the most ideal of places to be in, but better here than dealing with Montys dropping llama dung on her doorstep everyday.

With no butler or any household help, it’s up to the two of them to fend for themselves. If someone had asked Goneril a year ago if she would eat mac and cheese from the carton, she would’ve eviscerated them from entertaining such a thought.

Since then, times have changed.

“I’ll get that. It’s probably one of our neighbors.”
