“Ahh, yes. Another fine morning to bask in the sun and take it all in.” Dina marveled, swinging herself on the hammock.
She had been on her feet the whole night after a late voyage to Felicity Island, and was glad to finally take a moment to rest.
The moment she had her eyes closed, however, she was treated to some stern words from the captain. “You! Show a leg, scallywag.”
Dina begrudgingly shot up, almost falling over the hammock. “Come on, captain. Can’t a pirate just lounge around for a little?”
“Rest is for landlubbers, Caliente,” the captain said, driving the point home, “up you go, up you go. We don’t have much time.”
“Ugh...” Dina grumbled.
The crewmember in blue sniggered as she ate a piece of gelatin. “Told you the captain wasn’t not gonna like it.”
“Shut up, Emily.”
They then walked to the port where their ship was docked in order to start their journey around the island. While they had some small successes in other places, Twikkii Island was the big prize.
And for Alexandra Teatherton, voted as captain of the renegade Dread Pirates after her stellar showing with the Ginormous Gem of Summerville, it could potentially be her biggest one yet.
Her current crew lineup was an interesting mixture of characters. Among them, Kendra Blaise, the quartermaster, had been around for the longest.
A former firefighter, ironically known for her willingness to play with fire (literally and figuratively), her pistol-whipping skills outclassed even pirates more experienced than her, ones that even Alex herself wouldn’t dare to a duel.
Next up, the chief navigator Emily Lee.
Emily’s first encounter with the pirates was when she joined them for a week as part of the research for her dissertation. During what was supposed to be her last day, the ship they were in got themselves in a bind and Emily ended up maneuvering them back to the docks herself.
One thing led to another, and she joined the crew straight after getting her diploma.
The newest mate was none other than Dina Caliente. Alex wasn’t even sure how she ended up on the roster. Most likely reason was that she had a little too much rum to drink and recruited Dina after seeing her play pirate somewhere.
Maybe it was in a tub.
But at this point, that didn’t matter anymore. As long as they got what they wanted.
