Donna was skirting down the halls and knocked on Sam’s door, giving him a skittish smile. “Hi,” she greeted, noticing that Sam was just typing away, seemingly oblivious to any of Josh’s shouting down the hall, all need and really annoying older-Jewish-man-whine. “I think Josh is looking for you.”
Sam’s finger was hovering over several keys and he barely glanced up over the rims of his glasses. “I’d never know,” he replied, lightly.
“Samuel Norman Seaborn, I swear to god!” Josh was swearing and stood in the doorway, smacking a newspaper against the frame, at the same time as Donna skittered away. “Did you see this?! Did you see this? Does the other side even have a filter between brain and mouth or is it all just spilling out at ninety miles per idiotic hour?”
“What have the Republicans done, Josh?” Sam asked. “Besides encourage taxation of the poor.”
“They think they’re controlling the news cycle, but they are not,” he scoffed, “they are so, so not, they are not doing it with this.”
Sam picked up the newspaper that had been dropped on his desk and he glanced up at Josh, then down at the paper, then up again. “They’re reporting about your ballerina ambitions,” Sam pointed out.
“Yeah, Sam, got that,” he said scathingly, yanking the paper back.
“Because,” Sam continued helpfully, taking off his glasses and using them to gesture, “of a quote you made about Vladimir Stravinsky and his talent as a ballet dancer. I believe you said that you wish you had that grace and then you gave Danny a quote that went along the lines of ‘if I had that skill, maybe I’d be the lead dancer and not the second-top-dog’.” Josh was glaring at him. “Spokesman of the people,” Sam clarified.
“Keep this up, buddy, and I swear,” Josh muttered in a heaving serious sigh, “that I will phone every paper about last Valentine’s Day and the way you came onto me.”
Sam blanched and put his glasses back on.
“I have a speech.”
“Yeah, you do.”
