I certainly hope my math is off here. I really do. But this looks suspicious. And I don't like it at all.
A gunman shot a Democratic congresswoman in the head and killed other people. She's not dead right now, but may be. The
BBC laid it out like this:
Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, a conservative Republican, placed Ms Giffords on a list of politicians she wanted to remove from office in mid-term elections last November.
+
Ms Giffords was "a rising star" in the Democrats with hopes of eventually winning the Arizona Senate seat
+
She upset Arizona conservatives by supporting Mr Obama's healthcare reform bill last year.
=
A suspect named by US media as Arizona resident Jared Loughner, 22, was arrested after the incident.
The dead included a nine-year-old girl and a federal judge. President Barack Obama said the shooting was a "tragedy for our entire country".
The Associated Press news agency reported that one of Ms Giffords' political aides was also killed in the shooting.
In addition to the six deaths, police said a total of 13 people - including Ms Giffords - had been shot and wounded in the attack.
The BBC is leading me to believe that this woman pissed off conservatives, that Palin put a fatwa out on her, and that conservatives who hate America healthcare are willing to kill over political motivations. It blows me away if these facts actually align in this manner. Not only that someone would kill others over a political ideal (although that is war, I suppose), but that people are that against having an equalised healthcare system that they will kill people over it. Most conservatives don't stand to profit from healthcare in the current shape that it is in, so why are they so against it?
I really hope I'm just led to this conclusion by mistake. I hope that Loughner is a liberal loon who has a screw loose. I hope that Giffords pulls through. And I hope that no one would really do something like this because their dog Palin told them to do it.
Please.
