Rather than sharing our sleep woes for the day (do we ever not have sleep woes?) I shall share our news of the day, which is that we've tried our first solid!
We're doing an approach called "Baby-Led Weaning" which is fairly new in terms of having been researched and written down but is, I think, a pretty traditional way of weaning babies to solid food in non-Western countries. Because it advocates waiting until six months to try solids (the recommendation these days anyway), the theory is that the baby's digestive system and physical development are ready to bypass purees and mushes and go straight to finger foods, albeit steamed if they're too hard for the baby to chew/gum well.
Anyway, I'm waiting another couple of weeks until Ciaran's eczema-y rash clears more to start wholeheartedly (by which time he'll be the recommended 26 weeks) but in the meantime I gave him a hard-ish chunk of my mango to gnaw. He looked interested and more than a little perplexed but it had his attention for a couple of minutes before he tossed it aside in favor of a cooled teether.
Which segues handily into our second milestone, which is his second bottom tooth! It made an appearance two days ago and is rapidly growing as sharp and lethal (albeit still mostly hidden) as his first tooth.
