"Whoa - Kaoru! What's going on? Why can't I be here?"

Word formed and blended together to form an incoherent jumble of words. He tried to calm himself down, but having Hikaru here was just...it was wonderful and terrible and the both the best and worst thing that could have ever happened. He wanted to cry and laugh and smile and frown, but all he could do was cling tighter to his brother - his brother who was here and in one piece and real.

"I'm here, okay? And I'm not going to leave you."

"Please...please don't leave." His voice was soft and pleading. He was desperate and it killed him to know that he was this selfish - that despite everything he still was overwhelmingly happy that Hikaru was here. But maybe together...together they would be ok. Together they could survive.

The tears eventually dried up, but he still clung to Hikaru - terrified to let go, craving the familiarity and closeness of his twin. Kaoru would be forever grateful to Mio for helping him, for being there for him when no one else was, but she wasn't Hikaru. No one could ever replace him - his voice, his eyes, his touch, his laugh, his smile.

Abruptly Kaoru pulled away from his twin, instinctively reaching for Hikaru's hand. Concern and worry was written all over his face and he did not return the laugh. The redhead knew first hand that this was no joke - they were stuck here, there were monsters, and there was nothing hilarious about any of it. Kaoru knew he wouldn't have to say anything - his silence and the look in his eyes would be all Hikaru would need to see.
