Characters: Kouzuki Kallen, open Setting: The Grand Room Time: Early night Summary: Kallen looks for others in the grand room, but the lack of lighting really doesn't help. Warnings: None.
Well, this definitely had not been in the plan. Crouched and tense in a corner of the entrance room, Rayne didn't dare make a sound, or even breath. Hearing straining to catch every sound, her eyes almost seemed to glow, catlike, in the darkness as she glanced around. There was no one else in this room, but there was definitely others in - where ever the fuck she was
( ... )
Kallen scowled as she heard a voice cut through the room, clear and understandable unlike the other murmurs behind the saws and hammers. But the tone and the words marked her as someone Kallen was bound to dislike in her mind. Even though now was not the time to be making enemies, she refused to sit back and be babied!
“Who are you to tell me what to do?” she spat, practically having to shout to be heard over the noise. She walked further into the room, looking every which way to find whoever it was that had spoken and managing to spot the shadowy figure near the entrance way. “Thanks for the concern,” she continued without a hint of gratitude, “but I’m perfectly capable of taking care of myself, no mater what else happens to be in here.”
The edges of her lips curling upward, Rayne eased farther into the room herself, keeping to the wall. Heading toward the East Hall, she moved in an odd sort of crouch, the edges of her dress trailing along the floor behind her. She definitely knew this room wasn't the place to be, so she kept her guard up, and made sure to listen to the alarms going off in her head.
Eyes staying on the shadows, the dhampir chuckled darkly, shaking her head. "No need to get snippy over advice, little girl." She purred. "But if you're perfectly capable of helping yourself, then I won't save your ass when whatever is in here gets you."
Chopper was very confused as he got to his tiny feet in the entrance room. It was dark like it had been when he went to bed, but everything else was wrong. The room wasn't rocking, and that sure as heck wasn't wood beneath his feet. The room was all wrong, and his nakama were nowhere to be found. Maybe it was a dream? But he felt wide awake, and he had never had a dream quite this vivid. That was enough to set the poor little reindeer on edge and put a look of fear on his face.
That was before he heard a strange sound from the closet, and the sounds of construction all around him. Was that shadow watching him? Shaking, he tiptoed forward, slowly inching across the marble in the entranceway. When he was in front of the closet, he slowly turned his head right to take a look inside. Then froze. Was it seconds? Minutes? He wasn't sure. However, something finally clicked in his mind.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" Tears streaming from his eyes and his hands over his head, the tiny deer ran screaming into the grand room.
Kallen's scowl deepened as the woman snuck out of the room. "Good," she muttered to herself. "I don't need your help." She took slow steps around the grand room, watching the shadows carefully in case there really was someone lurking within them. She wanted to investigate them, to maybe take a stab at them with her concealed knife, but when she didn't know what she was working with, it was hard to take any action.
Then she heard the scream. It was a little more ridiculous than the normal kind of human reaction, but then... A small, chubby little reindeer in a pink hat running on his hind legs was even more ridiculous than the shout.
"What on earth...!" Kallen exclaimed, taking a step back in surprise as the small animal ran straight for her.
Wincing from the loud noise, Rayne instinctively turned toward it, crouching lower into a predator's stance. She had no idea what it, he, she, whatever was, but it wasn't the most bizarre thing she had seen, and it wasn't threatening either. He/she/it reeked of fear, and if it kept up with he/she/it's run, and ran into Little Miss Priss, it was more likely than not going to get them both killed.
"The things I do to keep from getting my ears bitched off." She snarled, throwing her left arm out, fingers pressing down on a familiar button. Quick as a flash, and singing out, the harpoon shot across the room, lodging itself into the wall. Trailing tight and tense from the steel arrow to Rayne's arm, is a steel mesh wire, set right at chest height for the... animal-ish thing to run into. It was going to hurt, but Rayne was doing this to keep them alive and save her some annoyance later on down the road, not to baby them.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-" Chopper's scream was cut short as he suddenly found his tiny body slamming into something. He wasn't sure what, but it didn't give an inch as he ran into it full speed. In a pained daze, he looked up - was that Nami? For a second, he could've sworn it was her, but no. Just a trick of his eyes. It was some other girl, one he had never seen before. Not that it mattered now.
He fell onto his back, crying in pain and fear. His chest hurt, and the shadows were moving, and the closet monsters were going to eat him, and the noise wouldn't stop pounding in his ears, and he was all alone. There was no way this was a dream - he'd never been hurt in a dream before. This had to be real. Luffy, Nami, Usopp... none of them were there. He was all alone, and the monsters were going to eat him, and that was that.
"I'm... sorry..." he choked out between sobs, with no clue why or to who he was apologizing. He just knew he meant it.
Suddenly it felt like too many things were happening at once. Never mind the deer, did that woman just shoot something at them? Never mind that too, the steal mesh didn’t look to be for attacking anything, was the deer crying? Kallen found herself becoming quite flustered over everything. Alright, Kallen told herself, one thing at a time. First to calm this tiny crying animal. This tiny crying animal that could speak, but that was beside the point.
“I, um, no, it’s--it’s okay,” she stuttered, taking a hesitant step forward, wary of the steal between them. “Hey, calm down now. You--you’re okay now,” she said, though of that fact she couldn’t be too sure. At least the deer was safe from her, which seemed to be it’s primary concern at that point. Everything else, however, she could not be so sure.
"You'll be fine." Rayne growled, though her tone is not a reassuring one. "Just stay away from the things posing as shadows, and you /should/ be fine." Fingers released from the button at her wrist, allowing the wire to reel back in as quick as it was unleashed, the harpoon ripping from the far wall. Hearing hissing from the shadows as plaster and wood fell to the floor, the dhampir gave a sneer as she checked the tip of the projectile weapon. "And the fuckers apparently don't like when you hurt their precious room."
Peering over at the other two for a split second, as if contemplating something, she scoffed to herself before turning to head for the East Hall. Even if the vibes coming from there made her want to claw her stomach out, she'd rather be sick than risk doing /another/ good deed. "I'll see you around." She said in parting, before muttering under her breath. "If you survive."

OOC: Just a note, Rayne-mun, since this wasn't caught earlier; the house is indestructible and impervious to any weapons directed against it. A harpoon wouldn't have been capable of piercing the wall at all, much less tearing part of it out--in fact, it probably would have just hit and bounced off, without any visible effect.
But since you guys have already posted with this, maybe you could just assume that you harpooned something else large and difficult to move, like a couch? Anything not integrally part of the house itself, like furniture, would be fully affected by a harpoon the way you described. Thanks! <3
Chopper was at a loss for what to do. On the one hand, he hadn't been eaten yet and the pain was subsiding to soreness. On the other hand, the strange girl who wasn't Nami was telling him that it was okay. How could it be okay? There wasn't any light and there were noises everywhere and monsters in the closet who wanted to eat him! That was not okay! And who was that scary voice telling him to stay away from the shadows? So there were monsters in the shadows too? On top of that, he had never seen that human girl before! She hadn't tried to hurt him yet, but how did he know he could trust her
( ... )
Kallen’s eyes followed the woman heading for the hallway. As much as nothing bad had happened during their encounter, she sure as hell didn’t just make a friend of the woman. With any luck, the house would be big enough to let them avoid each other. Though, she thought riley, luck wasn’t exactly in her favor at this point
( ... )
Chopper pushed himself to his feet and gingerly tiptoed towards the strange girl. He didn't see anything in his way, but then he hadn't before and he still had managed to crash into something. He'd definitely have a big old bruise in a little while, but the pain was nearly gone. He was too focused on the monsters and scary things to worry about a little pain.
Once he reached Kallen, he quickly hid himself behind one of her legs... sort of. Part of his head was hidden, but the rest of him was in plain view. It looked as though he was trying to hide behind nothing and peek through her leg, which under different circumstances, would've doubtlessly been hilarious for anyone watching. At any rate, he was looking towards the entrance room he had come from, baffled that there weren't monsters chasing after him.
"I know I saw monsters in the closet..." His voice was shaky, but somewhat relieved. "Lets go."
Kallen turned her torso to watch the small deer as he hid behind her. What he was hiding from, she couldn’t be sure really, but she looked at it incredulously as it clung to her legs. As strange as it was, there was something endearing about having such a small and cute animal cling to you like this deer was now attached to Kallen. She reached down to grab hold of a hoof so she could lead it out of the room.
“Monsters in the closet? Okay, let’s stay away from those then,” she said, though it made her feel like she was talking to a toddler. “Why don’t we try the dinning room? I bet the lights work over there.” She wanted to get out of the grand room fast. It almost felt like the shadows themselves were moving now.
