Zetsu had long since lost track of time. He knew only that he had been here for a while now, locked up in the cool darkness with his own thoughts and the occasional rat for company. He knew that he had heard screams from outside, though not their cause. He knew that he hurt, badly so, and that he was weakened and drained to the point where healing himself was instinctively rejected as a disastrous idea. He knew that something had come into his cage the room with him without first opening the door--some human-shaped shadow that had filled him with such unreasoning and senseless terror that he had burrowed under the newspaper bedding completely to hide, cowering in deathly silence until it had passed without incident ( ... )

Mio was immediately alerted as she heard Zetsu addressing her, even more as she noticed the condition he was in. Perhaps she just hadn't noticed it before, or maybe it was just that his cloak was missing now, but he definitely looked worse than she recalled. She couldn't have been out that long, however, and...why would he even be in here? She couldn't keep from gasping, abandoning all common sense in favor of running over to the man and kneeling down by him. Closer now she could better see the full extent of the damage, flinching as she thought on how much abuse the poor man must have suffered before, for some reason finding himself trapped in here. He almost seemed surprised, maybe even confused to see her, but it couldn't have been for that long, though, right? He'd been with her before and she couldn't have been out for that long...right ( ... )

Zetsu shifted a little, one leaf curling upwards to partially block out the light. The pain by now had grown constant enough to where he would have been more distracted by its absence, rather than it growing worse; nonetheless, he offered Mio a dazed smile, absurdly relieved to see her, and doubly so as he felt her touch; she was soft, solid, warm, alive.... Alive, not a hellhound-gnawed corpse, not a ghost, not..... ghost, that was right. His disjointed mind immediately made the association with ghosts and her camera as he realized how.... almost naked she was without the camera; it was one of the few times he'd seen her without it, in fact. She must miss it; she had last time. Last time she'd almost been crazy ( ... )

Mio was, indeed, quite alive. Getting torn into by zombies, the mother ghost grabbing her - it was like none of it ever happened. She still hadn't found a decent explanation for herself, but it was easily pushed aside due to her concern for him. In the same way her missing her camera was ignored, one hand reaching to touch it when it wasn't there, but said nothing on the subject. It just wasn't the time to be acting so selfishly. Instead she gingerly let herself inch a little closer, inspecting him better and trying to think on what to do. He was too big, too heavy for her to carry if he couldn't move, but she couldn't leave him here, not with the rats ( ... )

'Of course' she was fine? It didn't seem at all like a matter of course to Zetsu. She had been viciously manhandled by a ghost, that didn't leave you in top shape. But she really did seem to be unhurt, which was a bewildering thought.... How had that happened? He had clearly seen the burns, and then the hellhounds, and.... "Of course." He echoed in return, offering a small, painful smile that was nonetheless genuine. That was a matter of course, taking care of her most prized possession for her.... even if he wasn't sure exactly what the reason was, he never would have left it to get broken or stolen. That would just be disrespectful.... "I think so.... It didn't take long to take care of her, after ( ... )
