He went along with them instead. He was surprised that they did not bother to blindfold him, though their reasons became clear as soon as they reached the tunnels. It was pitch black, and they were moving at the sort of speed Sebastian would carry him at when they needed to be some place fast.
He carefully counted the time it took between each turn. He could tell it would take him hours to traverse the path, but if it led him to anything useful, it would be well worth the time spent trying to find the place.
Needless to say, Mello's cursing was just irritating him as he sat on the bench, leaning against the bars, and repeated the number of minutes and the directions to himself once he was in his cell. Once he was finally quite sure that he could bring up the sequence when he needed it, he said, "Will you be quiet? Cursing them isn't going to get you anywhere."
He had already tried irritating the phantasms on his way down. They reacted to nothing. Cursing wasn't going to get anything more done, save irritate the people that were stuck around you.

Regardless, it seemed as though Ciel never failed to irritate him. "SHUT UP!" He furiously screamed at the top of his fucking lungs, and then resumed his pacing. "I will yell and curse as much as I fucking want," he snapped viciously, his voice now lowered, though by no means more pleasant. "And you're going to fucking deal with it. Believe me, Ciel, I should be the very least of your concerns right now. Why d'you even think we're here? They've got plans for us. We're here because we're going to be fucking horribly tortured. I'm sorry if I'm offending you, and I'm well aware it's not going to get me anywhere, but I can't exactly sit around all fucking calmly right now."
Ciel might have been able to stay calm composed and keep his emotions under his belt, but Mello couldn't. There was no way. He was fucking pissed off--more accurately, far beyond enraged-- and scared like hell, and he had to let it all out somehow.

He stood up and turned on Mello, shouting, "Why don't you shut up? I want to be able to HEAR if things are going on! Instead of panicking, why don't you try observing. Look for some things around the room that might be useful, listen to hear if the phantoms make any noises, try to find something we can use to get out of here. Even if it doesn't work, at least you'll be trying instead of wasting all of our time!

He hoped the Phantasms would be able to beat that out of him. The kid needed it.
"Yeah? Take your own advice, then, and stop wasting your time bitching at me," he snarled. "Learn to fucking ignore distractions, why don't you? I'm not about to stop doing anything just for your convenience." He tightly clenched his fists, audibly gritting his teeth. "And don't lecture me. If I'm wasting anyone's time here, it's only my own. Not all of ours. No... y'know what? Don't tell me I'm wasting my time. I can make that judgment for myself, and I can figure out on my own what I should be doing right now. You really think I haven't thought of observing this place yet? I'll do that when there actually is something to observe! Can't you see that here are lots of things around the room that might be useful? Like those toilets? Those might be real fucking useful. You can shit in them when you need to. I'm sure I've noticed about as much as you have so far, brat, and I'm sure I'll have gathered at least as much information from this as you by the time the Phantasms are done with us."
