Machi hesitated before moving. There wasn't a lot else he could do. Behind the sunglasses, his blue eyes flicked from the door to the desk to the floor to Yukimi and back, checking the room erratically with his surfacing paranoia. Then he moved forward, putting the safety on and stooping to start sweeping things out of the way with big, fast gestures. Cans of soup, jars of preserves, and boxes of crackers rolled or tumbled across the floor as Machi hastily cleared the way for the desk. The chirping seemed to grow louder in his head and he tightened his jaw, refusing to lose control to it. If there was one thing Machi could manage here, it was sound.

"I... I sorry."

It took a lot to manage those two (well, three) words of English, and they came out slightly hoarse; his throat was completely dry, making it feel like sandpaper when he swallowed. And he wasn't an inherently vocal person, especially not in English. And especially not now. He couldn't understand why Yukimi had complained about the bullets to him. If... if he used knives like Zetsu's, then he was a ninja or someone powerful, Machi knew. He'd killed monsters. So why--? The boy was too shaken, too guilty, and too conflicted about his inability to shoot to carry that any farther and he clammed up again, shutting up his thoughts inside himself as Yukimi started moving about again.

Another crunch came, accompanied by a scraping sound as the monster outside scraped its claws along the door.
