It was odd to be pain-free again. He had gotten used to the constant pain, the wrenching agony if he moved to fast. The single eye. The echoing emptiness where his memories should have been. Was that what the princess Syaoran was helping felt like? Empty like a cup waiting to be filled?
But death cured all ills, right?
Somehow, he didn't think that was what they had meant. He slipped back into the room, carefully shutting the door behind him as quietly as possible. The last thing he wanted was for the hounds to get wise to Break's injury. "It's me. I got water." He had thought he was speaking softly, but the words sounded incredibly loud in the nearly silent room.
Luffy had been laying next to Break, offering what warmth he could. Break's breathing sounded labored, and it made the fox unhappy. Break was his friend. Break shouldn't be hurt anymore than Watanuki should be hurt. He uttered a soft, low-pitched whine in Watanuki's direction.
Watanuki would fix it, right?
But he didn't move from Break's side, head dropping back down to rest gently on the blind man's shoulder.
