The shadows swarmed as Matthew and Makoto broke and ran, a seething dark tide moving in towards them from beneath every piece of furniture in the room, clamoring to tear into them. Only the light made them keep their distance, it seemed, but that simply encouraged them to mass in the direction of where they were going to meet the boys as they ran, rather than pursue them from behind, where Ace blazed in the entrance room.

March twisted as he was tackled, back hitting the floor hard. "It's better this way." March told Ace, eyes fever-bright with madness and murderous intent, flames leaping and blazing as they grappled. The pair were about the same size, both incapable of being harmed by each other's fire--perhaps they would have been evenly matched, if March had been simply a man ( ... )

Sorry for the wait, I've not been totally well lately. sonofogami February 4 2010, 02:28:47 UTC
Makoto, however, turned the wrong way, if only for a moment. Seizing the nearest chair, he grabbed it by the back legs and raised it over his head to smash it against the floor, breaking it apart with a loud crash and splintering of wood. This left him, more or less, with the pieces, and it was these he wanted--he seized two broken legs, shoving one into the burning embers of the fireplace before he took off, sparing only one glance for the two flaming bodies before running after Matthew, improvised club and torch in hand. He wasn't going to try and fight something made of fire--or even on fire, ghost or otherwise, with a wooden chair leg, but it had been proven he could kick the shadows, and that meant they were solid enough to beat back.

He wasn't going down here without a fight.Ideally, he wasn't going down at all ( ... )

Ace fights are not the time to think about stuffs sleepy_fire February 4 2010, 05:15:35 UTC
Ace was pushing his body. Normally, it would be entirely reflexive. He could dodge bullets.

The human brain had endless capacity for adapting. When he'd eaten the Mera Mera fruit, he'd become, in essence, flame. He had never feared its bite, and therefore been able to yield his unconscious mind to the flame. But the Phantasms had altered the almost symbiotic relationship he had with the fire. It had made the fire, for the first time since he had been 16, his enemy. The flame had turned and bit it's master.

And an instinctive reaction that caused pain every time it was used was quickly discarded by the brain as a destructive behavior.

What had once been an entirely unconscious reaction, allowing his body to shift to flame and avoid injury, even something coming at him as fast as a bullet was deteriorating.

So when March turned and grabbed, it caught him off guard, and March's hand closed tightly around his throat.

His hand locked around the wrist, fire and ice and flesh in equal measures, eyes narrowed as he struggled. "It's ( ... )

Sorry for super late tag, life got unexpectedly out of hand for a couple days there. unseen_maple February 7 2010, 03:18:23 UTC
The situation seemed like it was getting worse by the second. But the advice Ace was giving them hadn't changed. Keep running. Well, he had to know better than them how to survive in this god-forsaken place. So Matthew kept runnning. He was tempted to look back to check on Ace, but he'd seen this in way too many movies. Looking back never helped.

Makoto had paused at the hallway entrance. Matthew didn't blame him. Whatever those things were, they looked less friendly than the fireplace.

Suddenly, Ace had rejoined them. Racing past them and up the stairs at the end of the hall. Taking full advantage of the path he had created, Matthew followed. Ace stopped in front of a door to let the two of them in. On his way past, Matthew couldn't stop himself from asking,

A-are you okay?

{ooc:I'm really sorry I disappeared for three days. I sort of got caught up in real life there. ^^; Also, am I right in assuming that the in game location is now Second floor, 27? I'm having a little trouble matching up the maps.}

Ffff, and then real life kicked me in the balls. It's all good. Sorry for MY delay. sonofogami February 10 2010, 02:54:18 UTC
Makoto bit back his irritation and plunged forward, torch in one hand and improvised club in the other. He wasn't going to let them touch him--he swung out with both, using the club to beat back one of the headless things so he could push past and kick a crawler out of the way to clear his way and follow. He gritted his teeth, grinding them together, and tasted blood. He didn't know if he'd bitten his mouth or what, but he barely cared--he charged down the hall, trailing after Matthew and the struggling rabbit. Suddenly he jerked to a stop, turning--and grabbing hold a pipe still in the hands of a nurse-thing. Dropping the chair leg, he literally ripped it out of the thing's hands and took off again, running after the others, now better armed against whatever the hell this place--whatever and wherever--was going to throw at them ( ... )

Ace glanced at Mathew for a moment, sparing a tiny fragment of attention from the monsters. "I'll be fine. Just keep moving." His voice was firm, ignoring the faint twinge of pain from his bruised throat. "Wait for Donovan to be on the far side of the room, then run like hell, alright?"

Sheesh, this guy was way too damned quiet. He needed to speak up a little, but there wasn't much for it. He kept waiting for the hounds to appear, kept waiting for the danger to swing around the corner. Waited for March to catch up.

Watched the brat disarm a Nurse.

Surprisingly, he laughed. "Good job, brat, keep it up and you're going to make it through the night." Really, this kid was impressive. Thinking on his feet and everything. He grinned, feeling a bit better about their chances suddenly.

He grinned as March topped the stairs, feeling ready for the fight for the first time in awhile. Feeling ready to face his friend.

you can't hurt me, and I can't hurt you, so lets just spar, buddy. It might even be fun.((occ: the maps are confusing. We' ( ... )
