Aiden allowed himself to be tugged against Ace's chest, listening to the steady thump of his heartbeat making a counterpoint to the story, keeping time with the rhythm of fingers through his hair. It sounded like a ticking clock, he thought, soothing but ominous. It was understandable, in contrast to the slew of things Ace was talking about that he hardly understood, could barely even imagine. He wasn't sure what to say to that; it sounded more like something out of a story than anything real that he knew of.

But.... it sounded.... nice. So maybe he shouldn't say anything at all, and just follow Allison's example of silence. "Oh...."

As night fell, silence fell with it.

March screamed.

It was a strangled, wrenching howl, barely human in its agony, cut short as March lost the ability to speak freely. But his body screamed for him, writhing as he pushed away from Lilia, gashes tearing him open to vent gouts of steam and let boiling blood pour down him. He smouldered and twisted and blackened, melting fat and flesh running in rivulets to mix with the blood, roaring flames licking at him hungrily as his body was claimed, inch by brutal inch.

Lilia watched with wide-eyed horror as the bed ignited, flames leaping through a body that quite simply was no longer there. She reached for him, grasping, fingers producing a hissing cloud of steam as they slipped through; she could feel her mind numbing, fading, awareness receding as she was forcibly drawn back towards the suffocatingly dark shroud of mindless waiting.

Paloma sobbed quietly as the cold claimed her, though she was quickly drowned out as Ksenia started to scream; already, the gashes were forming, thousands of them covering her body, blood welling up to start streaming over her skin and soak the bed, even as needles burst from Evangeline's fingertips. The screaming continued, but even she wasn't loud enough to cover the violent snapping of bones as Matalik, Ricci, and Donovan's necks broke--and as Natasha writhed and thrashed, body buckling and breaking as every part of her twisted savagely in different directions.

Aiden could do little more than watch mournfully as he faded away, much as Christine, Ricci, and Matalik had done; Allison giggled as bloodstains blossomed on her dress, mind claimed and twisted immediately--for the first time, she smiled widely up at Ace, happy and playful, without fear. Another giggle, and one tiny hand rose, pressing against his chest just over his heart; the fabric beneath it hissed and smoked, eaten through in a matter of seconds. It probably wouldn't take more than a minute to burn a fatal hole straight through him.
