For a moment, he didn't seem to hear Watanuki. He hovered there with a frozen smile as he listened and waited, observing every slight change, the flinching, the light gasp... Break imagined he could hear Watanuki's racing heartbeat pounding in his head, a steady thump-thump-thump. It was pleasing.

--But he had work to do. He pulled away, and it was like a switch had been flipped. The smile became frivolous, his hands sunk back into his oversized sleeves, and he clapped his hands together.

"I'm glad to hear it! Well then, best of luck to you."

He knelt down to whisper in Luffy's ear; he wasn't entirely clear on the fox's limits, but it certainly seemed intelligent enough to take simple directions. He gave a nod indicating the boy inside.

"Keep him away from the door."

Then he produced a lollipop from his bag, took half of it off in a single vicious crunch, and slipped inside, leaving the door open just wide enough for Luffy to get through.

"Ahhh, warmth!" He waltzed into the room, waving his cane at his feet in front of him and putting on a deliberately drunken walk. "A beautiful thing, a beautiful thing."
