He had slept too long again. For one, the house wasn't flooded anymore and whatever monsters and spirits had appeared previously were gone.

As he made his way carefully around the corner, Kei stopped when he heard the sound of someone yelling. With how quiet and seemingly harmless the house had been tonight, the sudden change was more than enough to break through Kei's hazy thoughts. Then again, he could just have been sleepwalking again.

"Um..." he straightened up to look at the other person and stops. Kei had seen a lot of odd subjects in the Manor of Sleep and from old stories he heard in and around his home village but considering he'd never actually left Japan...

"Are you looking for someone?"

At least he has enough manners to not make fun of your nose, eh?

Usopp reacted the way any rational person trapped in a haunted house would when encountering something new:

He screamed like a girl and nearly jumped out of his skin.

But what he saw was just a fairly normal looking man. He stared, breathing heavily as he tried to calm down. There was no guarantee this man was dangerous - he might be in his position, like Sanji and Watanuki and Break and everyone else he'd met.

Or Usopp was going to find out if the Lanternkeeper was right about how death worked here.

The reaction definitely caused Kei to jump back. Or at least be taken aback, since jumping might result in injury with his senses still a mess. Asking if he startled the other would have been a definite understatement. And since he'd never heard (or never ran into) a ghost that had been afraid of him...

"Sorry for startling you," came the apology as Kei gave the other a small smile.

For someone who just ran into another person in a house that appeared intent on killing everything in it, he's awfully calm.

OOC: Sorry! I think I confused the alert for the second comment for the first one - 1,000,000 pardons!!!!!

Usopp felt his heart start beating and tried to evaluate the person in front of him. He didn't look like one of the monsters or ghosts, but one could never be too certain. "Don't sneak up on people like that - especially not here!"

He paused, blinked, and stood up tall. "Of course, not like I was scared or anything! I'm a brave warrior of the sea who commands over 8,000 men and a fleet of 800 ships!" Yeah that was a good cover!

[ooc: don't worry about it]

Whether the Japanese man would call Usopp on his bluff or not was up in the air. On the one hand, the humouring expression that found it's way onto Kei's face might have been the giveaway... On the other, it wasn't as if that cover story would hurt Kei. So he rolls with it.

"It's a bit of a habit. I apologize for the trouble," he said. Perhaps this person could help Kei stay awake a little while longer. "But a fleet of 800 ships? That's quite a feat."

Ah good he fell for it.

Usopp crossed his arms over his chest and pointed his thumb at his chest. "Of course it is! For I am the dreaded Pirate Captain Usopp, the terror of the seas, the man who makes 10,000 men shudder at the mention of my name and 20,000 women throw themselves at my feet!"

That'll show him for sneaking up on him.
