It was safe to say that Vincent was almost as startled by her scream as she was by his voice and he jerked back, his hand twitching reflexivedly towards his gun as he stepped backwards in the dark, giving her a chance to escape behind the piano. He recovered quickly--she was fortunate he hadn't shot her, but he had more control than that. It stood to reason that she would react like that and he should have expected it; normal people often edged away from him or crossed to the other side of the street, even in Midgar. That a child should be frightened of him... he'd let his suspicions get the better of him.

He checked the holster of his gun without looking, crossing over into the middle of the room where he bent, slightly, at the knees, his red eyes picking her out in the darkness between the wall and the piano. He was still wary, biut more concerned about the consequences than he was convinced of a trap now. He'd yet to encounter a trap involving an unprepared toddler. Human shields, yes. Traps?

Less likely.
