With his confidence renewed (at least somewhat), Yosuke found himself wandering around again, as much as he dared. There was no specific destination, nowhere to go, but there was one goal: move forward. He didn't know how or to what, but walking seemed as good a start as any. He found himself walking a familiar path, though he hardly recognized it until he reached the stairs heading to the attic. After all, the house looked far different when you weren't running away full speed from its many horrors. He stared up the stairway for a moment before heading up them on impulse. Move forward, right?

There they were again - the things that weren't quite people, but were still sort of people. Without the imminent danger of a Chie-supplied kick to the face, it was harder to ignore them. They weren't doing anything, but they still sent a chill up Yosuke's spine. It just wasn't natural. Trying to ignore the unsettling atmosphere, his feet and eyes roamed the room for something, anything of interest to take his attention. There wasn't much, but ( ... )

The scene was over and her vision cleared, returning her to the now comforting pitch black room. The storage room was gone, her hands were not covered in blood, the pain she felt lingered briefly and faded, but she still felt sick. Her stomach twisted and writhed, her mind was racing and she could have sworn her heart had somehow lodged itself in her throat ( ... )

Without the glow of a scene or his persona, Yosuke couldn't really see what was going on - but he could hear. Sure, years from now constantly blasting his music might deafen him, but it'd also made him a better listener. He knew how to pick out different instruments, different sounds, and identify them. There just wasn't any mistaking the sound he was hearing.

Walking over in a few quick strides, he plopped himself down next to her casually, like they were back in Inaba and he was settling in for lunch. What else could he do? Someone had to keep pushing them on, keep watching out for them - and that someone was Yosuke. How could he do that if he fell apart when she did?

"Jeez Naoto," he began, hoping she could hear the smile on his face, "if we keep up meeting like this, you might start to think I actually care about you. Who knows what'll happen then." Gingerly, he reached out a hand and placed it on her shoulder, giving a gentle squeeze ( ... )

Yosuke's smile was more than evident and so was the strain behind it. He wasn't used to this, he didn't know how to handle this. He was trying though, trying so hard. Trying to keep a group together that was fraying at the edges, only moments away from unraveling. Perhaps it already had. She hadn't seen Seta or Yosuke for more than a month, hadn't seen Chie either and Kanji...

Kanji...

She wiped at her eyes, keeping herself from leaning into the touch of Youske's hand on her shoulder and resisting whatever comfort he was attempting to give her. She didn't need to be comforted, she didn't need pity, she didn't need this, she didn't want this ( ... )

Nothing to discuss, huh? Yosuke almost groaned - of course. It was Naoto.

As if she'd make this easy for him.

So he'd have to find the right thing to say, huh? Yosuke wasn't sure he was even capable of finding the right thing to say. He never did - not with Chie, not with Seta, not with anyone. What kind of hope would he ever have with Naoto? The right thing wasn't an option.

So he'd just have to try the wrong thing till it worked.

"Alright, alright, so you've got nothing to say. But maybe you can hear me out then." He paused briefly, not sure how exactly to do this. Despite Chie's accusations, he'd never actively tried to be stupid before. It was new territory ( ... )
