The hot shower was a relief. He hadn't realised how much he'd needed the reset and he spent more time in it than he'd planned--it might have been unnecessary, but Machi enjoyed and preferred being clean, a luxury he'd only gained a few years ago and had more or less lost upon entering the house. It was mostly useless, however--he didn't have a change of clothes, and it had been a long time since he'd had any way to amend that, short of washing his clothes in the sink, which he didn't have the strength or patience for any more. Dying had miraculously cleaned his clothes, but for all his fronting, it wasn't... he didn't want to die. Even temporarily. Ever. Especially not--
He didn't want to die any more.
He towelled his hair off in silence, taking a little time to distractedly comb out most of it and push the wing back into shape--it was mostly natural, so even without tending it generally kept its basic shape, albeit poorly--before wordlessly cleaning his sunglasses and putting them back on. The routine was surreal, and he did most of it without thinking or even realising what he was doing, his thoughts heavy with death and hunger. Unlocking the bathroom door, he turned the knob, cracking the door open to see out into the hall.
