Satoko drops in hidewithlaughs June 14 2009, 22:38:39 UTC
It started with a a stumble.

Nothing was strange about it though, she just stumbled a little. Until she blacked out. There was no reason why either.

Satoko Hojo felt around her, this didn't feel like a dream. Where was she? Looking up at the cloud veiled sky, it was clear she wasn't in Hinamizawa in a normal situation.

Before anything else could happen, sounds of others not too far off echoed in the distance.

"Hello?... Anyone there?!" She called out. "Anyone? HELP!"

Dropping by the entrance was starting to become a habit of Yosuke's. After all, people could drop in at anytime, and someone had to be there to say hi. Especially at night - it was the worst, and anybody could use a hand then. He was in the middle of this periodic journey when the strangest thing happened ( ... )

Thank goodness, someone was here to help her! The boy in front of her was older for sure, but then again she was used to talking to others around that general age. After all there were plenty at her school. Satoko was, of course, much shorter than her fortunate find. She took a deep breath, trying to calm down a little before answering.

"Where am I?" There was no time for a 'who are you?' and instead she only looked back up. "...How did I get here?"

There wasn't anywhere in particular to go, so Yosuke dropped down to his knees next to her, putting at more of an eye level with her. He didn't have a clue how to start - it was weird enough explaining the regular house, it was even worse explaining it to a little girl (a part of his soul had died when he found Nanako-chan in the house), and now that everything was changing, just what the hell was he supposed to say? Still, he had to say something.

"Um... I'm not really sure. It's never been like this before. There's usually a house and it's just, gone." He sighed and scratched the back of his head - as if she could believe that. It sounded so weird, as weird as the next thing he said. "You probably fell in like the rest of us."

Fell? Like when she stumbled a little? That definitely happened so it caught Satoko's attention immediately. Especially since the remark about the house made very little sense to her.

"That's right, I tripped!" Falling down was so normal, it failed to explain why this was happening to her. Did she die? No, there was no way she could have so easily. Before any ideas swarmed in a brainstorm, she continued.

"Like the rest of us? What do you mean? Are there others? Did the same thing happen to you?" There were so many questions left unsaid. Like why was she here, what exactly is this place or how she was going to get out of here and get back home.

Yosuke still didn't feel as bad as the time he had to explain everything to a scared and crying Nanako-chan, but this girl was giving him a run for his money. He swore inwardly - where the hell was Chie? She'd be good at this, she'd figure out the right thing to say. If only. He knew better. He knew he couldn't make this girl wait for something that wouldn't happen, knew he couldn't say 'just wait a second' and walk off to find someone else.

"Hey, slow down! I promise, I'll answer everything. Just - one at a time, okay?" Yosuke allowed himself a deep breath before answering, as if it would help. "Yeah, there's a lot of other people. Right now I think everyone's just standing around wondering what's going on. And yeah, the same thing happened to me. I got knocked down, and when I opened my eyes I was here."

Except 'here' used to be a house, but that was a little much to explain at once.

Satoko couldn't cry, not in front of strangers. It would be weak anyways, there was still hope that this couldn't be as bad as, or worse than, death. She managed to keep her anxiety inside. If only for now.

"Sorry." The apology was quick and nearly empty but not quite, feeling she had every right to ask away. Still, it was understood completely and she waited for the young man to finish explaining. There was a modest amount of appreciation through facial expression and body language to make up for being so winded at first.

Satoko began to tweedle her thumbs nervously, "So, what causes us to be here? Or you do not know either?" Concerns over this alleged house would have to come later.

Yosuke felt another pang in his heart when she apologized. He'd been too rough on her. What the hell was he doing, getting upset at a scared little girl? Berating himself mentally, he swore to do better. He'd answer her questions and help as much as he could, and then he wouldn't feel quite so bad about being a jerk.

"Hey, don't worry about it." He reached out a hand to pat her shoulder, trying to be as comforting as possible.

"I... don't really know why we're here. Nobody I've talked to does," Yosuke admitted with more than a touch of remorse. "We're all looking for a way out, but nobody's found it yet. Or the why. We're just kinda... stuck."

Satoko moved away though, flinching over the touch and distanced herself by a few steps. Don't touch me.

"I'm- we're trapped?!" Suddenly being patted on the shoulder was the least of her problems. Her face sunk a little. "How long... has everyone been trapped here?" The scenery was growing more and more unpleasant to Satoko's eyes, her stomach knotting a little. This place was kind of creepy, it's come to realization that this is an island of some kind. There was no other visible land within the horizon. "I wanna go home."

It was then that Yosuke learned an important life lesson that was common sense to post people. Don't randomly touch strange little girls. Out of ways to be comforting and at a loss for what to do, Yosuke again found himself wishing for someone else - anyone else - to be there. He was at the limit of what he could do on his own, and if anything it looked like the girl was close to a breakdown.

"We're trying to find a way out! And we will sooner or later, I promise. There's a few people that've been here for a while, and they're getting good at figuring stuff out. It can't take much longer. We've just got to tough it out! C'mon, you look strong. I'm sure you can handle being away from home for a little while, right?"

Falling from a disappearing chair hurt more than having a chair pulled out from under him, which had happened a few times for laughs when Emil was a kid. The disappearing chair was also a lot more shocking because the chair was gone, and from the look of things on the ground the rest of the kitchen and the entire house was gone with it. It hadn't fallen or anything, it had just...vanished ( ... )
