When immersed in an investigation, Naoto could literally go days without food. All that mattered was the case at hand - finding the next piece of the puzzle. Family would be there to talk with later, she could sleep whenever she wanted to, food could wait. It was easy for her to become obsessed with a good mystery and this house certainly did not have a shortage of them. She would have been glad to keep going for the remainder of the day (read: until she collapsed on the nearest piece of furniture from exhaustion) and she could have too. Naoto was running on something other than sleep. She was thriving on the thrill of unraveling this mystery, of being able to finish the puzzle. Her companion, however, did not live as she did.
It wasn't until Kanji's stomach growled that she realized how hungry she was herself. Her own stomach screamed at her, furious at her for neglecting the basic needs of her body. She couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt at forgetting such a thing and she quickly suggested a quick trip to the kitchen for lunch (or dinner, she wasn't sure what time it was supposed to be).
This led them both to the kitchen. Naoto opened the refrigerator and peered inside with a frown. She should probably cook something, it would be the least she could do after dragging Kanji around all day, but...well, she was fairly useless in the kitchen.
