heatsink? what about the pipes and drain?
This entry is from friday night, it kept getting screwed up.
Well, gah. Kevin and myself decided to put my computer together today. Actually, not put it together, but rather, salvage my dell and relocate all the good parts. We install the new mobo and processor, and everything else, but then... bum bum bum*. It turns out the heatsink that came with the dell is some whacky system involving a brick of copper (it'd make a good weapon, you can beat someone over the head with it) , a case fan, and a plastic shield.
** complicated stuff.. funny story**
We figured that we wouldn't be able to salvage the heatsink, so we decide to go out looking for a heatsink. At this point we'd called brent and he was tagging along for the ride. Google Mapsapparently gave us the wrong directions to the comp shop that we'd called. Turned out they were in PSL rather than Stuart.
After about an hour of driving (half of it in circles) we get to the shop, it's this run down shithole and smells of cigarrette smoke. BLEH!!! But, i was desperate to get this thing together. He shows us the heatsink he had for us, it looked good... at the time. I bought it for $10.
I get home, it's now 6:30. We started taking the comp apart at 3:15, so we'd wasted about and hour and a half driving and worked on it for 1:45. The guy at the store must not have known what kind of heatsink fit a socket478, it didn't fit. In the end we figured it probably came off a refrigerator or something. So i ordered a good one from newegg.
for those of you who didn't understand the above.. My computer should be running in about 5 days.
Later that night, Brent and i figured we'd grab some chinese food, and kevin went home to catch some zzz's. We hit up the china garden and got some chow and organized a trip to the movie theater. Meghan and I had actually started thinking about it yesterday, and i called her and got it together today. Brent kinda just got onboard at the last minute.
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was a KICK ASS movie. I laughed through the whole bloody movie. My favorite parts had to have been the mice (oh bollocks!) and the manic depressant robot was the coolest... ever.
Also.. Meghan, i dunno what to think. It seems she's got too much on her plate. I think that's the reason i really asked her if she wanted to go and chill at the theater. She's been stressing out hardcore lately and i really do care for her as a friend. (even though i've only known her what... 6 months.) i really am clueless. I'm trying my best to help her, and i hope everything turns out for the best. But yeah, i think just hanging out with her more and giving her a shoulder to cry on and somewhere to express herself helps her alot. blah.

i was singing so long and thanks for all the fish during work all day. it's lame i know, but that seriously was a great fucking movie.
