"I swear it wouldn't hurt on purpose," Jack said sincerely, then closed the distance and kissed her softly, affording her plenty of room to retreat.
Beverly's lips quirked, just a little. "I know," she said, but that was about all she could say, really, because by then he was right there.
She'd made the decision already, really, a long while before, and so she kissed him back, lips parting just a little as if she had gasped.
Jack laid his hands on her waist, letting the kiss linger, then deepen. Surreptitious conversation aside, this was what he'd been dancing around since he'd first met her.
If Beverly was being honest with herself, she'd have admitted the same thing. At that moment, though, she was too busy enjoying the hell out of the first good kiss she'd had in months. Easing back just slightly, she glanced up at Jack. "I'd ask you back to my place for coffee," she said, "but we already had some. So, my place, coffee, as metaphor, Captain Harkness?"
