So.... in desperate need of a hair cut as I have not had one since the beginning of December I decided that Wednesday was the day to do it. I didn't really like the last place I went so one of my co-workers said he had a good experience with a place a few days ago. I walked in and the stylist was out of this world. First of all, he was wearing sunglasses. Yeah... he was also wearing a huge over sized neon green jacket with a super long skinny black and white scarf. His hair was a bright orange shaggy afro. He radiated cool! After a bad attempt at speaking the little Korean I know into haircutting lingo I went pantomime. He got out some book he made by cutting out pictures of cool hair cuts and gluing them on paper. He pointed out some crazy shaggy asian haircuts that I could in no way pull off. After looking at some shorter cuts and pointing of a combination of pictures with more pantomiming he looked excited and placed me in the chair. Homeboy was like Edward Scissorhands. He brushed and snipped and pinned my hair up with barretts with a smooth natural motion. When I though he was finishing I found out that I was only at the half way point. He flipped out a straight razor like a butterfly knife. Furious hacking and slashing insued for 5 minutes. His assistant/girlfriend was standing next to him the whole time spraying my head with water. When the cutting was finished the assistant gave me a like a 15 minute shampoo that was quite nice. She then literally pushed me from the shampoo sink into a chair where a whole handfull of hair-goo was applied. When I was properly styled I got up very happy with the hair cut and paid my 6,000w (about $6). When going out the door I was saying thank you many times to both the stylist and his assistant. At the last moment before I left the stylist raised his sunglasses and winked at me haha. It was the best haircut (sorry Kim and Sarah) experience I have ever had. I will get pictures of him the next time I go. =)
Today was a holiday which was explained to me in 2 ways. First was that it was Independence Day from Japanese colonization. Second was that it was more like Memorial Day to remember those who died. I met up with Owen, Kate, and Amy for Korean lessons and coffee. Kate had to jet early to do a impromptu meeting with her schools new teachers. Owen, Amy, and I went on various errands with Amy. The best errand was when we went to Lotte Department store to repair her fathers jacket and she found $10 in the pocket. Apparently her thoughts on found money was to spend it as quick as possible so we ate icecream in the basement. Yum! Met back up with Kate and went to a Japanese restaurant (just thinking now if thats strange on the day commemorating the break from Japan). Food was good and after a stop at E-mart for $150 worth of snacks for Kate's presention on Saturday we headed home. Next Korean lesson is Sunday. Super excited to start getting 2 a week starting on March 17th.
