I have SO many things to update on. Whenever I get the chance, I will write everything out.
The good news...
I got ACCEPTED to the MANHATTAN SCHOOL OF MUSIC SUMMER VOICE FESTIVAL! Me! This girl! I have NO clue how. I sent in an audition CD just for fun; I sang Once Upon a Dream, Lasciatemi Morire (an opera aria), and I Dreamed a Dream. I seriously have no clue as to how I got accepted.
The bad news...
Funding it will be difficult. The tuition is $3,750. I also need to figure out rent (may be able to stay with someone), flight, program insurance, and extra money for food. I WILL FIND A WAY!
This would give me the opportunity to either be in an opera (La Bohème) or musical theatre production (Nine) with the others accepted into the program. I also chose to study with Pat Misslin, who taught Renée Fleming at SUNY Potsdam. She. taught. Renée. freaking. Fleming!!!! This is an amazing opportunity that I may never be able to get again. My acting teacher (whom I admire very much and who knows me like a friggin' book even though I've only known him for a little while) has said in his e-mails:
-I think such an opportunity is worth taking out a loan, and paying it by working it off.
-Take the loan if you are able-I do not mean to tell you what to do, but that is my advice. Go out there and find out if opera is for you and how you stack up to competition. We must always measure ourselves against the best. And if we’re not up to it, then we find out.
I really want to do this and I think he's right.
