Title: <3 ?
Series: Original (Other: Highschool AU)
Characters/Pairings: Tristan/Eleanor
Rating: G
Warnings: So uh apparently now I write dumb highschool AUs of my own stuff. This one features No Angst Allowed and has characters from my usual set (vampire OTP), the Unfamiliar set (shark OTP), and a bunch of my other friend's characters. Everyone's a normal human. No sharklads, no vampires, no angst. Just bad AU.
Summary: Eleanor is deeply horrified by her new role as a shoujo manga character, part one.

He's already standing in front of her desk when she notices him, and she actually has to check behind herself to make sure he's intentionally directing his attention at her. Sweetlove is conspicuously missing, even though she usually hangs around during the breaks.

"Your name is Eleanor, right?" She's not entirely surprised he's not sure of her name; he's usually still listening to music when rolecall happens.

"Y-yeah."

"Ah, I thought so!" Tristan looks vaguely amused. "Then you're the vampire."

'Vampire' sounds a lot more like a title Adrian would apply to himself, and it's hard to think of a response to something like that, especially since she's not sure if it's meant to be an insult of some kind or not. There's nothing to suggest mockery in his expression, though, so Eleanor opts to hope for the best.

"Vampire..." she echoes. How do people even do the things teen magazines tell you to? He's within arm's reach and she feels like if she had to reach out and even poke him, her arm would shrivel and die from the embarrassment. ...He thinks she looks like a vampire? Is that bad? Do boys like vampires, or has Twilight made that an insult?

"Haha, I'm sorry. My friend said you were a goth," he continues, his accent effectively mangling the 'th' into a 't', "but that's hard for me to say."

This implies that he has spoken to someone about her at least one time, however, and the prospect makes her excited and very nervous simultaneously. Hopefully they weren't just talking about how she was that one weird guy's younger sister. She's generally not noticed by anyone for reasons besides being Adrian's sister and/or wearing weird gothy clothes like him, but it isn't as though she's particularly interested in the gothic fashion scene. It's just less troublesome to do all their shopping in the same stores, and if that means she ends up wearing black creepers and shirts with giant crosses, so be it.

"Oh. Well, I guess I do sort of look like a vampire." The pallid skin likely isn't helping matters.

"I got your note," Tristan goes on. Eleanor is pretty sure this conversation is the first time he's ever said something directly to her that wasn't just 'hello', and she's also very, very sure she never sent him any notes.

"Um... you did?" Wow, she thinks. I'm a horrible conversationalist.

"Yeah. I have a question, though." He shifts and reaches deep into the pocket of his jeans, fishing out a folded piece of paper covered in purple ink hearts. Sweetlove. What nefarious sabotage. She has no idea what that note says, but hopefully it's nothing that makes her sound pathetic.

Tristan unfolds it and stares at it awkwardly for a moment. It looks to be almost a whole sheet of loose-leaf paper, absolutely not the most discreet size for a terrible note potentially professing her shallow desire to kiss his dumb lovely face.

"What is... a hottie?"

Eleanor's horror is so immense that she stands up in an instant and snags the paper out of his hand without even stopping to think about how bad it will look. She reads it quickly in open-mouthed silent shock.

hey!!

I think ur a hottie and you should text me :3

ask 4 my number during the break ok? talk to you soon

~ Eleanor <3

She can feel her whole face burning. Eleanor tries vainly to get words to come out of her mouth, but instead she makes the questionable decision to raise her eyes to look at his face. Tristan raises his eyebrows just slightly at her reaction, but kindly says nothing. His eyes are blue like the sky, she notes stupidly. There's still music coming out of the headphones around his neck, but it's too quiet to identify.

"I--" There's no point in trying to explain that a friend sent this on her behalf. Even then, he could probably gather why. The girl covers her face with the unfolded paper. "ItmeansIthinkyoulookgood." Wheeeeeze.

"Ah... thank you."

They stand there awkwardly, and Eleanor wonders fleetingly if it's possible to disappear just by wanting to badly enough. She wants to shrink into the ground and vanish.

"Would it be better if we talked at a different time?"

She nods repeatedly, still standing, still covering her face with the creased paper. She doesn't move a muscle until she hears him uncertainly head for the door.

"See you later," he calls.

I'm going to die, Eleanor thinks miserably.
