hey I'm not dead!

Well, I haven't posted to LJ in a year and a half, but this is a special occasion. :)

I loved it. I loved it. I loved it.

I LOVE IT.

Seriously I have been on a week-long unstoppable high since finishing the book, and I still have the most ridiculous grin on my face. There are things I could nitpick, but why? JKR tied this whole series up better than I could ever have expected, and Deathly Hallows is definitely in my top two favorite HP books - the other one being OoTP - and don't ask me to rank them any more accurately than that, because I can't.

Two specific things I love to bits about DH and which I could never have predicted are what she did with Dumbledore's character and what she did with the Lupin/Tonks storyline. I get the feeling from reading other people's reviews that I am in the minority on Lupin/Tonks, with fans saying that they didn't get enough page time and their deaths were meaningless. I don't think this is true at all. For one thing, you can't complain about EVERY minor character not getting enough page time (and if anyone deserved more it was Ginny, hello) and also say that the book was too long and not tight enough. In any case, when I finished HBP, although I liked the book, I was a little disappointed with some parts of it. I felt that she really glossed over the shadiness of Dumbledore's actions, and I was confused by how she treated what seemed to me to be a super-fucked-up relationship, Lupin/Tonks, as sweet and romantic. In DH she completely addressed both of those issues and made it all that much more complex and true and awesome.

Also, I can hardly think of a scene I've been happier to read than Ron coming back to Harry and Hermione and getting the sword and destroying the horcrux, OMG I LOVE HIM SO MUCH.

I still have a couple of stories I wrote and never posted before DH, which I may or may not try to adapt to new canon. Is anyone interested in reading non-DH-compliant fic anymore?

I also might be working on some new stuff....maybe. I don't know. I miss fandom, and for the first time in ages I feel inspired.

As for RL stuff, ok, here's a quick rundown of my life since last posting:

- had a boyfriend who used up all of my time
- dumped boyfriend, was depressed
- worked 3-4 jobs at once and went crazy
- moved to another state
- traveled for over a month without internet
- started a new degree at a new school
- moved AGAIN and had no internet access AGAIN, woe
- got completely out of habit of posting to LJ.

so...oh...wussup with you guys?

real life, harry potter
