Lina keeps reminded me that I do not use this thing nearly as much as I should. It's not so much that I do not want to, as it is that I just simply forget to fire up semagic for months at a time. Anyhow.
New Job
I'm getting out of the retail-ish environment due to issues with a Best Buy sales manager that I will not go into details about. I had to give up my car and phone, and I never did receive my badge(despite it being ordered like 6 times) which did make me kind of sad. I really liked that job; it was quite possibly some of the most fun I've had working in my life. Anyhow....
Mike noted that I was in a pretty good position to perhaps start up my own little thing, working as a consultant. All I had to do was steal my client list from the Geek Squad scheduler and start making calls. Well, I did that. Ended up with a few clients who want to continue working with me to save some money, and a few others that want to contact me once their maintinence agreements are up with Geek Squad. So I'll continue working for these few people on the side, charging less than Geek Squad did and still making a fairly decent amount of money myself.
A Minnesota labor judge decreed that my termination was unlawful and Best Buy is currently paying me my full wages in severence pay which is pretty keen. Basically paid vacation while I look for a new job.
However that didn't last very long, as I had accepted a job offer by the time that the state got back to me. The job is working for a place called Virtual Radiologic Corporation and involves making more money than I was with the Geek Squad(and they paid me fairly well for my work, at least I felt), with better hours(more consistant Mon-Friday daytime hours), and a little bit of travel from what I understand. I'm starting on Monday.
Eve and her mother keep urging me to go after Best Buy for a little more, since they get to stop paying me once I receive a paycheck from my new job. I'm still thinking about it.
Joel
Our friend Joel is back up in MN from Tuscon looking for a job. He came up when we lived in Plymouth and spent a month not making progress on finding a job, which led to a big falling out between he and Eve. He's been making some good headway on the subject while up here, so I'm hoping things work out.
He's staying with us til he finds a job(mostly out of necessity, and because our friend Bill's place isn't exactly hospitable to longterm houseguests apparently) and will be finding an apartment with Bill once that happens. It's cool having him around as we work on warhammer models together, chat a lot, play Oblivion and WoW together. It is however wearing on me constantly having someone around the house. I think in the last two or three weeks I've gotten maybe 3 hours of private "Seantime" in. Eve mentioned she was going to take him shopping today so that I could get a little time to myself, which will be nice.
Parties
Bill is having the entier Grandeur(my WoW guild) Minnesota crew over tonight, which consists of Eve, Bill, Ryan(from Geek Squad), Rixen(he goes to school in Fargo and drives to the cities to visit us), Erynion(goes to school at the U, lives in St. Paul), Travis(a friend that Eve met on her trip to China, who it turns out decided to play WoW), Rob(I've known Rob for years, he got into WoW awhile ago and plays on our server, but is not in our guild since he plays Horde), Joel, and myself. It's a pretty fun crowd, all around my age. Typically Eve and I just invite everyone over to our place on Fridays and we all drink + play Xbox on the new TV + do a lot of drunken PVPng in WoW. It's nice to have Bill offer to host everyone however as I am sick of cleaning up on Sunday morning when everyone finally leaves. ;)
I was also invited to the first "Jesse/CTS/Reilly" party of the year tonight, at which I am very likely going to stop by and see everyone for at least an hour.
New TV
One good thing that came out of Best Buy was the new TV we purchased just before I was let go. 50" Samsung DLP HDTV.
God it's so hot having a TV that our dog can no longer block the view of by standing in front of it(our old TV was pretty small). I had picked up an HDDVD player not too long before we got the TV(mostly because our old DVD player, a 1st gen APEX unit that was originally one of the only models that could do things like playback of MP3, DIVX, VCD/SVCD, and other pirated movie formats finally broke on us). DVD's look good on it, the digital cable looks good on it(so long as you're watching an HD channel, of which there are only a handful atm. The normal channels look on, just kind of grainy and won't display in widescreen obviously).
It is also amazing for multiplayer games like Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles and Mario Kart: Double Dash.
Silent Hill
Saw it last night.
Not scary at all, but appropriately FUCKING FREAKY AS SHIT. I was quite happy with it.
I think I'll be picking up Silent Hill 3 if I can find a cheap used copy somewhere...
Oblivion
If you've got a newer-to-decent computer capable of 3d gaming and you are into RPG's and you have not yet played Oblivion. I seriously recommend picking it up/downloading it.
It's the fourth installment in the Elder Scrolls franchise. It's very open ended and seems to have as much replayablity as Morrowind had(which was at a level of "getting far more than your money's worth" in my opinion).
The game makes me wish I still had contact with Susan, who was a huge fan of the Elder Scrolls series and was my "Morrowind bonding partner" when it had come out. I know I've still got her email address around somewhere, I'm just not sure which email account it is stored on.
Cell phone
One last thing: If you were using the 612-384-xxxx cell number for me, please do not use it anymore. That was my Geek Squad phone(which as mentioned above I no longer have!). You should use the 612-229-xxxx number, and if you no longer have the number you can email me at seanDOTpoeschlATgmailDOTcom and I will give it to you.
