Support for AIDS/HIV

Aug 29, 2006 19:20

I know, I haven't been in touch with a lot of you lately (work work work workworkwork), but I have a favor to ask of you all.

As most people know, I work for MAC. MAC is a huge supporter of funding for AIDS benefits and has raised more than $70 million to support men, women, and children living with AIDS (they have tons of information on their website @ www.macaidsfund.org). This year, I'm incredibly proud to be a virtual walker for the 20th AIDS walk on Sept. 9th (which means I'll be working that day, but I still want to be able to raise money to contribute). I don't know how many of you know much about AIDS, or the devistation that it's brought to the world.

I'm not going to ask you guys to all donate money. I know how tight money can be, believe you me. But for the price of one lunch and a coffee ($15), there are tons of things that we (as a people) can do to help people living with AIDS. $15 will buy:
*1 dose of Hepatitis A or B or a flu vaccine
*7 HIV infected children school supplies for one year
*9 months of health care for a child in China orphaned by AIDS
*1 weeks of after school snacks for 30 children
*2 years of meds for a person infected with HIV or AIDS in a foreign country such as in China or Africa
*etc, etc, etc.

So please try to support us (financially or otherwise) as I virtually walk in the 20th Anniversary AIDS Walk on Saturday, September 9 at Volunteer Park in Seattle. Your contribution will help us raise support and awareness for Lifelong AIDS Alliance and people living with HIV/AIDS in Seattle/King County.

Lifelong improves the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS by connecting people with medical providers, helping navigate the maze of health insurance, providing healthy prepared meals and groceries to eat, or finding a place to live for someone who does not have one.

They become partners in care and remain supporters for life.

By making a contribution to sponsor me, not only will MAC as a company match your contribution for every dollar, you will help to change thousands of people's lives touched by HIV/AIDS. You are remembering those who would otherwise be forgotten.

If you cannot support me in any way, I completely understand. It's hard. But please, if you have an extra minute or two, forward this to as many people as possible so that we can at least raise awareness and more support. Put this up on your MySpace account (since I know how popular those are), or on your LJ or forward this to people who you know. Anyone (I don't know that many people). At least that way we can get the word out and educate!

And if anyone is still reading this, and not thinking I'm just some hobo trying to steal your monies and time, thank you for making a difference. :) Because even if I'm a nerd and don't raise any money, at least I know I let some people know what's going on. This is actually very important to me, seen as how I understand how little $15 for some people can be, and how huge it can be for others, and I'm super, super happy and honored to be a part of it.
