Gemini
(God, pure love,
gave birth to the angel of darkness,
the alter ego of herself)
Black night thick with humidity
and smell of afterbirth,
a snail hung in the spider’s web.
Dolls eyes
shattered in a kaleidoscope
of prism-shards
at the moment of their conception.
The twins cried from lack of milk and diarrhea.
Mother cried also.
Why not enough food? Why put on earth to suffer?
Father was a rolling stone,
but oldest son rose to become
the darkest one.
Trouble not only in his complexion
but developed affection
for revenge.
In early morning hours
body swells with bullet spells,
a coagulated pool of blood
encrusted in the southern mud.
Twin sis, child of light
walking streets at night,
making money to feed sisters and swelling belly,
with life.
Every day, she’d pray for it to go away,
crying in the yard, shedding tears
on to the night shades.
Eggplants made sweet from sorrow,
her child born, in the summer,
a son of god, and baptized by her mother.
