I'm currently reading the book Dance and Disappear by Laura Kasischke for my poetry class.
This was taken from her poem The Visibility of Spirits, from which the book's title comes from.
Once, lying naked
beside my husband in a sweaty
bed, an awful
moth flew through an open window
and landed on my breast. It had
come from outer-space and still
had star-chalk on its face. I felt
so stunned and sure of something
I couldn't wave it away. Hello? Hello in there I say. Who
were you, and what happened? She looked at me
with her hairy eyes, and seemed to say. I don't
remember, and yet
I live and have
these wings for awhile, and my
girlish figure, and my
beauty queen smile. Oh
my God, I said, though I
hadn't tkaen the Lord's
name in vain
for a long time. And then,
Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ
