[Amelia likes the Battledome for target practice, but since the adjustments the Malnosso made, she's found another purpose for it. It's taken her awhile to set up the scenario like she wants, but eventually Amelia figures out the controls enough to set up an expansive desert valley. The only thing visible other than the landscape is a yellow jeep ( Read more... )

[this was one area of Luceti that Jilly had never really had reason to visit. She'd come to see Archie when Bones had him at the clinic, but otherwise had never ventured into the Dome.

Today, however, she'd agreed to meet Amelia, so she came as promised. Wearing loose clothing, with her wild hair temporarily tamed and pulled back, she came in almost uncertainly as she looked for her friend]

[Amelia is just stepping out of the room when she notices Jilly wandering around. She smiles and waves to the other woman to get her attention, already looking like she's gone through a bit of a work out herself. She doesn't look any differently dressed than normal, however.]

Hey Jilly. You're early, aren't you?

[she laughed, giving her friend a fond smile] A little late, actually. I lost track of time.

Seems you've kept busy, though.

Oh. I guess I did too.

[Amelia nods, motion to the window in which the simulation can still be viewed behind her.]

Even if they messed up when they tried to make the changes, something good came out of it. Do you like to drive?

I never learned. I always just used public transportation. Or walked. [but she'll follow Amelia's nod, trying to get a look at the simulation behind her]

I guess that makes sense if you don't travel much. Vehicles can be hard to come by where I'm from. Even getting on a Sand Steamer can be tricky.

[Amelia puts a hand on the glass, then suddenly grins at Jilly.] I could teach you that too, if you wanted. I pretty much learned on my own, and it's not hard. It would only be useful here, though.

[she shakes her head with a laugh] I won't say no...but I have the feeling we might be spending a lot of time here if we're trying to learn everything at once.

It'll take a lot of time anyway. [Just how much Jilly has been expecting, Amelia doesn't know. The simple fact of the matter is that she's planning on taking however much time is necessary for the other woman to be able to protect herself, period.

But since there's no more need for it, Amelia turns her own simulation off. Maybe later. For the moment, she motions for Jilly to come over.]

I'd already made some things in here for me to practice with, so you don't have to worry about that part of it. But the most important control is this one: the safety switch. [Amelia points to a particular dial, then gives Jilly a straight on look.]

Make sure this one is on, no matter what.

From the name alone, I'm guessing I'm pretty okay with this idea. [she considers it as she comes closer to get a better look] What does it do?

It makes any injuries you get in there not real. [Which is why Amelia stresses that control in particular. Although she'll be facing real danger down the line, Jilly doesn't need to get hurt before then.] You'll still be sore and bruised, but if you get stabbed or shot during practice, it'll go away once the thing ends.

[she makes no move to touch the dial, eying it warily]

I didn't know turning that off was an option.

For you, it isn't. Just remember to check when you're setting things up.

[Amelia presses a few other things, making sure Jilly can see what she's doing. It's the bare basics of setting up a program, which Amelia herself isn't an expert at. More than once as she explains, she has to stop and think about what she's saying, and by the end she favors her friend with a sheepish grin.]

Guess the best thing to do is look it up if you've got questions.

[she grins back]

Fair enough.

[crossing her arms over her chest, she watches as Amelia sets things up]

So...what's the plan?

For now, I just want to see what you know. Easiest way to do that is to set up a fight. [Amelia points to the window, which reveals a bar where she had previously set up a driving range. There's only a few "patrons," but each is a sizeable male.]

Basically, we go in there, and some idiot is going to try and get rough. [Knowing Jilly's past, however, Amelia hesitates a second.] I'll be right there, so nothing will actually happen. We can turn it off if it gets to be too much or something.

Oh.

[she eyed the bar uneasily, suddenly feeling a flutter of nervousness at the idea]

So...hands on approach.

[even knowing that it wasn't going to go anywhere, purposefully walking into a fight seemed a great deal more intimidating than it had before]

Yeah. It's the best way to figure out how you'll react. At least for me; I never had a teacher or anything, so it's pretty much how I learned.

[Amelia stops to think about it for a moment longer, then she shrugs.]

Unless you want to start off fighting me? I've had enough guys start acting stupid, I can probably copy it okay.
