Coraline was safely in the compound, which was a start, and now Adam just had to find Sarah. Bundled in the leather he'd got during the last snow, his scarf wrapped around his neck, Adam made his way through what was going to be a pretty fucking nasty storm.

"Sarah?" he called, experimentally, into weather that wasn't quite white-out. "Sarah fucking Carter?"

Sometimes, it even snowed in the desert.

"You sound worried," she calls, amused, standing not so far away from him, his back facing her. They'd passed each other along the way, somehow, and she might have never seen him if he hadn't said something.

"Lovely day, isn't it?"

"Only you would not think that wondering around in this fucking weather isn't cause for worry," he says, heading towards her, reaching for her with one hand.

"C'mon. This is going to get worse before it gets better."

"Oh, don't be a cock, I was trying to get to you," she grumbles good-naturedly and reaches for his hand.

"Where's Coraline?"

"Talking dirty'll get you everwhere," he said, curling his chill fingers around hers.

"Compound," he said, already tugging her with him. "Come on, Sarah. We've got to get in out of this."

She rolls her eyes with an exasperated sigh, but follows along without further complaint. She doesn't want to be out in this any more than he does.

"This isn't how it usually happens." Which means there are going to be a lot of people in the compound.

"Yeah, I know. I'm pretty sure it's going to be hell in there, but neither of our huts are going to stand up to this, and nothing's bloody changed."

He gave her a tight smile.

"Just when you think you're getting the hang of this bloody place, eh?"

"We'll be alright," she says, returning his smile. A freak snow storm is nothing compared to some of what she's seen.

"It's a bit of a pain in the arse, living so far apart when this sort of thing happens."

"Are you fishing for an invitation to move in, Carter?" he asked, grinning at her, blinking snowflakes out of his eyelashes.

It wasn't like he'd never thought of it.

"I'm stating a fact, Carter," she says. She only seems to call him that when they're having one of their verbal sparing sessions.

"I didn't think it was something I needed to fish for."

"Because you don't want to move in, or you thought it was a given?"

He sped up his pace, joking or not because if they stayed out here too long they were going to freeze to fucking death.

"I'm saying it's something we should talk about, not dance around."

Having her own place is something she enjoys, something she feels comfortable with, but as rushed as it feels, the idea of living together isn't as strange as she would've thought.

He ought to be surprised that they're having this conversation now, but he isn't, not really. Not with them.

"When we get inside, we can talk about it," he grinned. "We can even run it past Coraline."

"If we get inside," she laughs, her fingers biting into his sleeve when a sharp gust of cold wind hit her square in the face. It's really coming down, now, frost coating her lashes and eyebrows and crinkling stiffly in her hair.

She sees puffs of their breath in front of their faces, hanging there in the air for a moment before drifting away.

"We're getting inside."

One thing that Adam Carter never did was give up and he thought, he thought that he could see a light.

"We;re getting inside and then we'll talk about moving your stuff."

"Alright, alright," she says, sounding unusually light and carefree, in spite of the storm raging around them. Gloved fingers curled in his coat, she turns her face into the warm crook of his neck against another gust of wind, her laughter muffled by his collar.
