Canon Used: Novels; The Wild Road/The Golden Cat
Appearance:
Sealink is a rather large Maine Coon calico cat, usually averaging around fourteen pounds. She's heavy set, with large paws and a belief that what you have you can add to. She adds to herself through fine cuisine from all over the world, and depending on who you ask she can be described as either fat or well-muscled (in actuality it's more a mixture of both). Though she is a feral, she's a cat of quality and is burdened with none of the afflictions feral cats are usually associated with.
Psychology:
Sealink grew up admiring the travelling cats passing through New Orleans, and this was a big influence on her. She loves to travel, and if confined to one place too long she can become moody and irritable. She likes new places, trying new foods, and meeting new cats and people. She has many friends and consorts, and it’s something she’s proud of. Even the dullest adventures seem exciting to Sealink. Her usual motto is ‘the journey is life’, and it’s one she lives by.
Something Sealink is always quick to make clear is her freedom; she’s her own cat, and no tomcat or human will ever own her. This is something she’s slightly insecure about, and on occasion she’ll refuse help she needs over it.
One of the reasons she hates being confined so much is because of her past. She doesn’t like facing up to her problems, and if she can she’ll run from it. Even her decision to try and find her kittens was an attempt to escape the pain she feels after losing Mousebreath.
When confronted over something she doesn’t like to discuss she becomes defensive, and sometimes distant. She can become haughty over even the smallest of things despite her generous nature.
Fairness is something she feels strongly about. She judges everyone individually, and whilst she is wary of anything dog-like initially she can be persuaded to trust them. She’s a firm believer that everyone has feelings; even humans, and becomes annoyed by those who address them as ‘it’.
Other Skills/Abilities:
She's strong and muscular, and a practised fighter. Her teeth and claws are kept in good condition, and she knows how to use them to her advantage. She does prefer to use human transport wherever possible, but she's more than capable of long distances herself without too much trouble.
Whilst all cats have good hearing, Sealink's is better than most, something even other cats have noted.
Her travels mean she has a lot of experience and knows people, cats, and other from all over the world, and she's more than happy to use her appearance to get what she wants. Usually food, although she's also good at talking other animals into giving her information she needs.
Other Weaknesses:
Sealink's size prevents her from being able to fit into the smaller nooks and crannies making it harder for her to hide than for a cat of smaller stature. She's not particularly agile either, and since she likes to keep herself well fed she's not as fast as other cats are either, and her hunting skills are well below par. Her lack of experience in this area doesn't help either.
She is pretty strong for a cat, but considering most of the other Plane dwellers this is actually pretty weak.
History:
Sealink was born on the boardwalks of New Orleans to a cat called Leonora Whitstand Merril. She grew up as well as any feral cat could hope to. New Orleans was known as the City of Cats, and every cat there was kept well fed whether they were domestic or stray. She admired the travelling toms greatly, and found herself seduced by more than one. She gained something of a reputation, and behind her back became known as the Big Easy. To her face and by those who respected her she was dubbed the Delta Queen.
When she was just out of kittenhood she was taken in by a couple who believed her to be a pedigree Maine Coon, and named her Minouche. At first she was happy with this. She was fed on nothing but gourmet, and had all the comforts of a domestic cat at her disposal. Her contentment didn’t even last two months. When she gave birth to kittens she’d conceived before being taken in they were taken off her, and no matter how hard she searched the apartment she couldn’t find them. A week later she was taken to the vet, and when she told a Siamese what had happened to her she was warned those kittens would be her last. The Siamese was right, but somehow the operation had gone wrong. Sealink still came into heat despite being infertile.
After this Sealink escaped from her owners and searched New Orleans for any sign of her kittens. She asked everyone she met; friends, strangers, enemies… no one had seen them. Eventually Sealink couldn’t bear the thought of her lost kittens anymore and left New Orleans with no intention of ever returning.
From then on she travelled the world, not giving herself the chance to think of her lost kittens. She indulged on gourmet good, mated with tomcats, and took adventure at every opportunity. Her motto became the journey is life, and that was what she lived by. Despite the places she'd seen, and the cats she'd met, her favourite consort became a heavily patterned tortoise shell with mismatched eyes who lived under the arches of Coldheath and went by the name of Mousebreath. They fell in love, though this was something neither really realised until later on. Her affection for him kept her coming back to Coldheath, and during one of her visits she spotted a young Burmilla defending a small female tabby from the other male ferals who lived under the arches. She took over, fighting them all off herself with ease. She comforted the tabby, and soon befriended both of them. The Burmilla was named Tag, and he told her of his search for the king and queen of cats. The tabby was a cat called Cy who Tag had saved from two lanes of busy traffic. Sealink recognised how difficult taking on a cat like Cy was and openly admired Tag for it, telling him it was the hardest thing he'd ever do. She sensed his journey was going to be an adventure, and introduced them to Mousebreath, offering for them to join them on their search. Tag agreed, and Mousebreath took a shine to Cy making and was more than happy to help them with her when she made the going difficult.
They discovered the king and queen in a warehouse where the Alchemist was experimenting on cats. With the help of the fox Loves A Dustbin, and the magpie One For Sorrow they freed the cats, and burnt down the warehouse in the process. Their victory, however, was short lived. The warehouse where they were hiding out at was discovered by cat-catchers working for the Alchemist. All the cats but Pertelot and Sealink were captured.
Sealink led them to the docks to try and find out if the others had been seen by any of the cats there. None of them had, although an old Cornish cat called Pengelly did offer to let them travel for a while on his owners fishing boat to help them get to Tintagel quicker. Pengelly persuaded them to keep their presence hidden at first since his owner, Old Smoky, had an unpredictable temper despite his love of cats. They stayed out of Old Smoky’s way for as long as possible, but Sealink’s bulk eventually gave them away. Pertelot accidentally knocked over a jar of peanut butter, and Sealink found she was too large for the nearest hiding place. Once Old Smoky was over his initial shock he welcomed the cats, and realised that Pertelot was pregnant almost straight away much to the surprise of all three of them. Sealink became moody and withdrawn at this revelation. She’d been caught off guard by the news, and found herself upset at the memories it brought back and more than a little jealous. It wasn’t until Pengelly encouraged Sealink to share the story of her own kittens with Pertelot the tension between them started to disappear.
By the time it was time for them to leave they were on good terms once more, and their only troubles as they travelled across the moors was Pertelot’s advanced state of pregnancy and the lack of food they found. Neither of them were adept hunters, making finding food harder still. Their hunger made them careless, and when they ate from a dogs bowl they were attacked by the dog. Sealink faced the dog head on, and probably wouldn’t have survived if Pertelot’s Wild Road form hadn’t emerged. As it was Sealink escaped with an injured leg, but walking became difficult and her leg became infected. Pertelot’s transformation had uncovered her hunting instinct, and if it wasn’t for this and the help of Memory the raven they probably wouldn’t have got much further. Things became a little easier when Ragnar discovered them. His cleaning of Sealink’s wound somehow managed to heal it completely much to her surprise. They continued until Pertelot could go no further, and she proceeded to build a den in which she could give birth to her kittens. It was here the other cats found them. All were present but one; Mousebreath. When Sealink asked about him Tag told her of his death at the hands of the Alchemists cats. She became withdrawn from the others once more, and when the Alchemist found them Sealink fought his cats with no regard for her own life. Though she survived the battle she was at a loss. She found she wasn’t the same cat she’d been before meeting Tag, and no longer had the same ambitions. She set her sights on returning to New Orleans in search of her kittens, and set off with Loves A Dustbin and his new mate Francine almost as soon as the aftermath of the battle with the Alchemist had been dealt with.
Current Story Point: Just after she's started travelling with the foxes Loves A Dustbin and Francine.
Reality Description:
Sealink's reality is the human world from a cats perspective. There are cities, towns, roads, forests... the only things that really differs from the world as we know it are the Wild Roads. These are a sort of highway used by every animal but humans that can enable the user to travel much further in a day than they would usually be capable of. On the larger, wilder, highways the user changes their form into the beast they once were otherwise they wouldn't be able to handle the wildness of the raods. On the smaller ones, however, they remain the same. These smaller highways don't go as far, and if they aren't used regularly they may disappear.
