Not the best week for a college newspaper
So my old college newspaper is in a bit of tissy.
The Editor and Op/ed Editor let a letter go to print that should have.
"Pixie's" Letter
Then a parent read that letter and wrote this to the Board of Trustees.
Sex and U by an angry parent How's that for an "Oh, Shit!" In the letter the parent says, "P.S. This is not meant for publication in your newspaper -- I copied your student editor out of courtesy." And what does the paper do, publishes it. Nice.
The Editor herself says it's okay, it's the first amendment.
And another person had this to say.
Still more anger! There are more posted responses, I just don't feel like doing the html. They are there if you want to read more.
I'm pretty sure that the advisor and the dean are having a really rough week.
The paper sure has gone a long way since I was Editor. I wasn't real conservative, but I can tell you I don't think I would let most of Pixie's pieces go to press. Vulgarity aside, it's an issue of content. In one of her stories she talks about how if you're having sex and don't want to use a condom, have the girl on top. Thanks to Newton and the internet everyone knows it's true.
If that doesn't make you go "Holy Crap" ...
