I'm such an olympics nerd. Summer, winter it doesn't matter. I just love it all. Well, except the basketball and tennis... That really doesn't do much for me unless it's a really good match up like USA vs. Lithuania.
This year I'm rather keen to see the handball finals as well as the gymnastic trampoline, sailing, water polo and some soccer. *excited* I just love the olympics. I think I'll wear my Atlanta olympics hat even though I'd rather have a Lithuanian one... any port in a storm.
Day One - Who thinks these aren't going to be blood baths?
Women's Beach Volleyball - USA vs Japan
Women's Soccer - USA vs Japan
Women's Basketball - Russia vs Latvia
Day Two
Sailing - Lots of sailing!
Judo
Diving - 3m springboard finals
Rowing - double scull heats
Day Three
Men's Field Hockey- Russia vs China
Swimming - 200 free semifinals, 100m butterfly finals, 100m breastroke finals
Lots of tennis, but really...who watches the olympics for tennis. There are already tons of world champion series for tennis.
Day Four
Men's Basketball - Iran vs Lithuania
Swimming - Lots of finals
Men's Fencing - Sabre
Sailing - Windsurfing, two person dingy
Day Five
Table Tennis - Men's Hong Kong vs Russia looks promising while Nigeria vs Japan just looks plain funny.
I'll go mucking about into days 6-16 later.
As far as athletes go so far that I can think of .... I'm cheering for
Dara Torres in women's swimming. She's 41 and still kicking ass and taking names. I kinda have to cheer for Phelps because honestly, he's just made of awesome. Then there is the
Australian Bubble Boy who is probably a total wanker, but his story is kinda funny in a douche bag sorta way.
Misty May is back with a new hyphen to her name (Misty May-Treanor) so she's who I'm keen on for women's vollyball.
Laura Asadauskaite for the modern pentathalon and maybe
Heather Fell too.
Shawn Johnson is going to have to have my gymnastics vote because BOTH of my Hamm boys are now out. And so I think that pretty much kills any hope the US men had at a medal in gymnastics.Did I mention I'm Pro-Lithuania in any sport? Yea, Leituva Pride Trumps All!!
How ironic would it be if I moved to Norfolk? I was looking at the weather and it looks pretty nice actually. Nothing in the record lows below like 6 that was a fluke in like January. Mostly it's lows in the upper 30s and highs in the 80s. Not tooo shabby. If I did move there I could pal around with Stacy & Jeremy and Jason Wells and Riggins!!
I've got a rather odd breakfast/coffee meeting/get together in the morning only to be followed by a possibly more odd luncheon. We'll see how it all goes yea?
Must...find....new....lj icons.... Mmmmm maybe some Lithuanian pride ones. lolol. ^_^
