We finally reach the kitchen, the humid warmth from the hearth is spilling onto us as we enter the room. Washing me with it's heat. Just the sound of Caden's breathy voice makes me grin like a idiot. Feeling much more comfortable in this company.
"Fine...I'll take what I can get. But I think you're trying to keep me from getting the recognition I deserve." Caden is smiling at Cassie, she's laughing, beaming back at him. I can't help but laugh at how ridiculous they are...always fucking glowing at each other...god knows what they've been up to in here.
I always find it interesting how the two of them make me feel content. Just by being there, their presence assures me of something I can't quite put my finger on. It's funny, how I am a completely different person with them, than I am with Ryan and Alexis. I'm kinder, more compassionate. I'm Aurelio. A normal guy, not a god. Not a annoyance to Ryan. Or an figure to be detested by Alexis. Some mystery to Dalus.
To Caden and Cassie, I'm a friend. Difficult at times, but endearing. That's what Father always said you needed :someone to defend and protect. A family. I wonder if they'll ever grasp how truly significant my stumbling upon them was. How it's all that's keeping me level and humane.
I swagger over to Cassie and throw an arm around her neck, she flashes me a playful smile, "Darling, what a feast you've made for me. I hope you're not expecting all this to make me to put out afterwards, though, because I'll make it clear that I'm not that type of girl."
