Ueda opened his eyes, finding it hard to do so when a spot of light shone on them. Sunlight was seeping in through the not-quite closed blinds and it was driving him crazy. He murmured and groaned, turning away from it only to see a body lying next to him. It was strange because Ueda not only lived alone but he was also single. He had no recollection of who the person could be and there were no clues within sight.
Then the strange man turned over, moaning in his sleep, smiling without real cause. Ueda gasped in horror.
“OH MY GOD, NISHIKIDO!”
The man opened his eyes suddenly and jumped up.
“UEDA! WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY BED-WITHOUT YOUR CLOTHES ON?!”
“YOUR BED? THIS IS MY APARTMENT-WHY ARE YOU HERE-NAKED?! YOU PERVERT!”
Ryo looked down only to realize that he too was unclothed, and also he was in fact, in Ueda’s apartment rather than his own. He grabbed at the sheets, a vain attempt at covering his naked body. He kept pulling at them until he fell off the bed, onto his back.
“Ow!” he winced in pain.
Ueda looked over, only to look away, “Cover your shame, Nishikido, for god sakes,” he groaned.
Ryo kept clawing at the sheets, wrapping them around his waist. He struggled to get up and wound up falling down a few times. When he finally got up, and was completely covered, he started yelling again.
“WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED LAST NIGHT?”
“I DON’T KNOW,” Ueda replied, sounding mortified and trying his best not to look in Ryo’s direction, lest he catch a glimpse of something he really did not want to see, “I CAN’T REMEMBER A THING AND-why are we yelling? This is ridic-NISHIKIDO, SHEETS, COVER, NOW!”
Ryo looked down again and screamed before wrapping the sheet tighter around his waist. He then looked around the room, on the floor, finding his pants and putting them back on.
“Ok, ok, look-there’s a simple explanation for this,” he tried to explain, “we both went to Yamapi’s Christmas party. We both got drunk and-and-ended up fucking-OH MY GOD WE HAD SEX!”
“NO WE COULDN’T HAVE. WE BOTH KNOW HOW DISGUSTED I AM BY YOU; IT COULDN’T HAVE HAPPENED.”
“LOOK CALM DOWN! I’m sure that maybe-just maybe there’s a chance we didn’t have sex. Man, I had way too much to drink last night. All I remember was walking into Pi’s apartment, talking to Jin, and then I woke up. I need to quit drinking.”
“You and me both, man,” Ueda rubbed his head and rotated his sore arm before getting up out of bed. He turned around and looked at Ryo before shuddering in disgust.
“Please, God, if you love me, you’ll make it so that I didn’t end up fucking this disgusting idiot.”
“Don’t start praying. Whatever happened, happened. We just have to deal with it,” Ryo scoffed, crossing his arms across his bare chest, jumping at the touch.
“How can you be so calm?! If there’s even the slightest chance that you-and I-did-the deed,” Ueda gagged, “I think I’ll just have to throw myself out the window is what I’ll have to do.”
“You always were such a drama queen, Ueda. No wonder Jin dumped you,” Ryo scoffed, laughing haughtily like the jerk Ueda always knew he was.
“Fuck you, Nishikido. At least Jin and I are still friends. When’s the last time you talked to Uchi? Hmm? That guy dropped you faster than a-a-I don’t know, I can’t think of any good metaphors right now. I’m trying to keep from imagining you and me-ugh I can’t even say it without wanting to throw up.”
“YOU’VE GOT A LOT OF NERVE, UEDA, YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE.”
“WHY ARE YOU EVEN STILL HERE, NISHIKIDO? GET YOUR GAWDDAMN CLOTHES AND GET THE HELL OUT OF MY APARTMENT.”
“WITH PLEASURE.”
Ryo looked around the room, finding bits and pieces of the outfit he’d worn the night before. He tried to do it as quickly as possible so he could leave, but he found it difficult because he was missing one key item.
“I-I can’t find my underwear,” he said, in a hushed, shamed tone.
Ueda laughed, “Are you sure you were even wearing any? Lord knows, you’re pretty skanky.”
“Shut the fuck up, asshole, and help me find my underwear so I can get the hell out of here.”
“Ugh, fine,” Ueda groaned, before looking around the room in a huff. He then saw a piece of clothing that looked unfamiliar to him on the floor.
“GOT ‘EM,” they both shouted at the same time. They each grabbed at it without realizing the other’s hand was there as well. That’s when they looked each other in the eye, an awkward aura surrounding them.
“EW WHY AM I TOUCHING YOUR UNDERWEAR?” Ueda yelled, falling backwards onto the floor, scooting back in horror.
“’CAUSE YOU’RE A PERVERT, UEDA. YOU ALWAYS HAVE BEEN. NOW IF YOU’LL EXCUSE ME, I’LL JUST PUT THESE ON SO I CAN NO LONGER BE GRACED BY YOUR PENIS-I MEAN, PRESENCE. GAWDDAMMIT!”
Ueda looked down and realized he wasn’t exactly fully clothed at the moment. He pulled down a pair of pants hanging off a nearby chair and slipped them on.
Once Ryo was dressed, he stomped down the front hallway and put on his shoes, grumbling and cursing to himself. He eventually got them on and made his way towards the door only to look back for a second as if trying to remember how he got in that apartment in the first place. He realized it was no use and continued out, slamming the door behind him.
Ueda put his hand to his head and sighed, distressed. What happened the night before? How did he, of all people, end up naked, in bed, with Nishikido Ryo, of all people?
Whatever the reason, he needed to find out. He would have to retrace his steps from the night before, starting with a call to his best friend, Kamenashi Kazuya.
“Yo, Ryo, what a nice sur-”
“Can it, Jin, I need your help,” Ryo grunted as he made his way into Jin’s apartment, without invitation or without advance warning. He took off his shoes and immediately made his way to the living room, sitting down on the couch and sighing, exasperated, head in his hands.
“Hey, Ryo, why don’t you come in? I wasn’t expecting you, but that’s okay. What are friends for?” Jin joked, talking to the empty space Ryo had left behind.
“JIN, GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE!”
Jin shrugged his shoulders and closed the apartment door before making his way to Ryo.
“So, to what do I owe the pleasure of you barging into my apartment the morning I’m nursing a massive hangover?” Jin asked, clearing the coffee table off, only to have Ryo put up his feet on it. Jin rolled his eyes and threw the stack of newspapers on the floor before making his way to the kitchenette nearby.
“You think you’ve got it bad. At least you didn’t wake up in bed that wasn’t your own,” Ryo said, stretching out more so, and rubbing his neck which for some reason was sore.
Jin stopped what he was doing and immediately ran out and back to the living room.
“WHAT?”
“What?”
“You woke up in someone’s bed? What? Who was it? Was it that Kame guy? I saw him eyeing you a few times. No, wait, it was Tegoshi, wasn’t it? I heard that guy’s kind of a slut, you know. Or was it-no it couldn’t be.”
Ryo knew to whom Jin was referring and immediately got red-faced. The smile on Jin’s face disappeared; he could Ryo’s face so clearly.
“You didn’t-you didn’t sleep with Tatsuya, did you?”
Ryo shrugged his shoulders, appearing meek all of a sudden, “Didn’t I?”
“You son-of-a-bitch,” Jin said in a tone that made Ryo’s skin prickle and his heartbeat quicken.
He gulped, expecting to get the beating of a lifetime.
“You finally did the deed!”
Ryo blinked a few dozen times, stuttering as well, “I-I-huh?”
“I knew it was only a matter of time. You know I always sensed something would happen between you two. It really was just a matter of time before you and him ended up-well-knocking boots, as the old people say,” Jin nudged Ryo from his chair next to the couch.
“What do you mean?! I-why are you like this?!” Ryo asked, sounding more than confused about Jin’s reaction, “Aren’t you mad?”
“Mad? Why would I be mad?”
“Um, maybe because you two dated for like a hundred years before breaking up-three months ago?”
Jin laughed, further pushing Ryo’s confusion. Why wasn’t he yelling and throwing a fit? Why wasn’t he beating the crap out of Ryo? Ryo didn’t like what was going on, not one bit.
“Oh that,” Jin laughed, downplaying the events that took place, “Yeah, Tatsuya and I dated for a long time but that’s ancient history. He and I both moved on and we’re in a good enough place that we can be friends. I’m not jealous. I’m happy for you two.”
Ryo stood up suddenly, looking angry, the type of angry that Jin should’ve been exuding at that moment, instead.
“ARE YOU AN IDIOT?”
“Excuse me?”
“First of all, that guy is your ex and I’m your best friend-”
“Well, actually, Yamapi-”
“And second of all, you shouldn’t be happy for us! You know how much I can’t stand that guy! Even when you two were dating, I thought he was a pain in the ass, and he was! He still is! You should have heard him this morning, sounding like I was the worst mistake had ever made or something.”
“Well, you kind of are. I mean, he went from this,” Jin pointed to himself, “to this,” and switched to pointing at Ryo, a disgusted expression on his face.
“Oh, fuck you, Jin. Everyone knows I’m a better catch than you.”
“Yes, you’re quite the charmer.”
“Bite me,” he scowled, “Anyways-like I was saying-this is nothing. Or at least it should be something to you. I don’t even know why I came here. I expected you to kill me if I ever told you but I guess you’re so ‘mature’ or some shit and yet you can’t be bothered to be upset. WELL IF YOU’RE NOT GONNA GET UPSET, I WILL. MAN, I FUCKED UEDA TATSUYA. THAT’S LIKE FUCKING THE UGLIEST GIRL IN YOUR CLASS.”
“Well, he was in your class but no he wasn’t the ugliest girl. Hell, if he were a girl, he’d probably be the hottest one of-”
“THAT’S NOT THE POINT, JIN. The point is that I had sex with Ueda Tatsuya and now I’m going to have to live with that trauma for the rest of my life.”
“Don’t be such a drama queen.”
“THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT I TOLD HIM. OH MY GOD, WHAT HAS MY LIFE BECOME?” he wailed, falling face forward onto the couch, moaning and groaning to himself.
“You want some tea or water or something?”
“YOU SLEPT WITH NISHIKIDO RYO!”
“Shh, Kame, I don’t need the whole world to know.”
“I’m sorry, Tat-chan, but what the hell were you thinking?! You yourself have talked about how disgusting that guy is. You always complained about how Jin was friends with him, especially when you two were dating and-oh my god, what about Jin? What are you going to do if he finds out? That’s his best friend!”
“Actually, Yamapi is.”
“Not the point,” Kame cut him off, “The point is, he’s going to be pissed. And he’s going to want to kill you both-you remember his jealousy issues, don’t you?”
“Why are you rehashing details of my life like I wasn’t there?”
“I’m just trying to get you back down to the ground, mister. You can’t just go around sleeping with whomever you want. There are consequences for your actions. Maybe this will tell you that you shouldn’t be drinking so much,” Kame trailed off, pretending as if the words coming out of his mouth weren’t his own.
“Oh don’t start getting all preachy on me, Kame. You more than anyone need to learn how to control yourself when it comes to alcohol. I’m not the one who made out with Koki under the mistletoe for 15 minutes last night.”
“HEY! Koki is a very sweet and kind man. He treats me well and makes me feel good about myself. And besides, he’s not friends with my ex-my ex with the anger issues.”
“Yeah, yeah, Jin’s a psychopath and Nishikido’s a dirty whore. We all have our problems-for example, my problem is you and your preachy ways.”
Kame looked at Ueda, offended, “If I wasn’t so ‘preachy’, you’d probably be dead, lying face down, in a ditch somewhere.”
“I swear, it’s like talking to my mother.”
“Whatever, whatever. I found it funny that you could remember my indiscretions from last night and yet you can barely remember your own. Tell me, what lead to you, you Ueda Tatsuya, to sleep with the man you most detest in life-well, after Jin?”
“I don’t detest Jin, thank you very much. And besides, I don’t know! That’s what I’ve been trying to figure out ever since I found his naked body in my bed-ugh, that was certainly a mental image I could’ve done without.”
“I bet Nishikido’s packing.”
“KAME!”
“What? Don’t tell me you’ve never looked. I swear, at the party last night-” Kame started chuckling suggestively, “I noticed his boughs were decked with holly if you catch my drift.”
“You’re sick-a sick, sick, sick man, Kamenashi Kazuya.”
