Comfort Foods

1. Cornmeal mush, cooked with milk and butter and served with maple syrup and more milk, on a cold winter morning. It fills me right up and makes me feel warm for hours.
2. Homemade chicken noodle soup. (And then having the chicken, carrots and celery from out of the soup the next day). I have to have chicken soup when I'm sick.
3. Chocolate! Anything dark chocolate will do. Most comforting: hot chocolate and this one recipe for triple chocolate bread pudding that my mom makes.
4. Yellow food, like fried eggs and orange juice, that look like the sun always makes me happy. (The one thing I can always make well is fried eggs, and I loved making them for myself and JC this summer).
5. Speaking of eggs, my mom's egg cups--cups of bread containing eggs, asparagus, goat cheese and mushrooms, baked and topped off with a little parmesan cheese--are a new favorite.

Plus an extra:
6. My mom's meringue shells filled with homemade rhubarb puree stuff. I've never known anyone else to make them, so they feel like home. They remind me of dinner with my mom and her two best friends when I was really little (like, younger than six).
